Dragonborn Rises: Skyrim reviews go live – all the scores

This is the big one: the review embargo for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has now lifted this afternoon. This will be all-out chaos.

The embargo itself, which lifted at 1pm GMT (8am EST/5am PST), is around the time the games goes officially on sale for the first time in the world in Australia and New Zealand at midnight, although retailers in the former have now since broken the street date.

A year-long anticipation, which kicked off last December at the Spike Video Game Awards, will culminate with the Bethesda RPG epic’s 11-11-11 launch tomorrow. Quite frankly, why you’d want to miss this is beyond bonkers.

Get all the scores below. If you want a link chucked in, do so in the comments below.

It’ll launch on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, with 360 getting 30 days exclusivity on the first two packs of DLC.

Nah, I have to wait with the rest of you. I’m pre-loading now. I’ll be able to play it from midnight, apparently.

completed uninterested in this game, Oblivion was overrated and broken, Fallout 3 was plain boring … this looks like a mix of the two.

This will be posted to me tomorrow, and (fingers crossed) arrive in time for my weekend (Sunday and Monday). I’m deep in Dark Souls now, close to my plat (well, kinda…) but although I was able to stave off Batman and Uncharted and Ico and Colossus and Rage and Child of Eden, I doubt I’ll be able to resist Skyrim or Zelda. :-)

Has anyone else ordered from Amazon UK? Is it normal that my order is just sitting there at 5pm on the day they say they’ll ship it, marked “Dispatching Soon”? Seems they’re either cutting it really fine or for some bizarre reason they arent going to ship it today. I dont really have any experience with Amazon.

#61 I’m with you. Having a hard time passing the time until tomorrow. I was thinking about watching Giant Bombs 12 hour live stream of the game, but I’d rather not have anything spoiled for me.

I have the game but waiting for stupid steam to let me active.. Screw you Einstein! Why’d you have to make time unbendable at sub-light speeds? :( (This is unscientific sarcasm, do not think I’m too serious about this. Everyone knows Einstein only invented ice cream).

Gekidami I live in the US but it shouldn’t be any different. I order almost every game off amazon and they always ship out in the AM the day of release. Thanks to them having a very large amount of shipping centers it arrives only a few hours later though. Can’t wait to play this, gotta wait till saturday though for mine to arrive.

^ …Ok, so why havent they shipped it yet? Normally when i order stuff here its shipped in the morning too, yet at past 7pm (for them) it apparently sits in their warehouse, doing nothing.

Wait, did it release over there today? If so disregard that…

Edit: In case you didn’t notice I said DAY of Release as in tomorrow. It should ship around 1am and arrive via whatever service is the equivalent of UPS here. That is assuming you chose release date delivery.

If it’s anything like Oblivion or Fallout 3 it is going to be boring and uninspired piece of trash.

@70 – Sigh…………
Oblivion and Fallout 3 are two of my favorite games of all time, why do you have to be such a hater? I know you loved Morrowind,, so I guess there is hope for you.
You think Oblivion and Fallout 3 are uninspired trash, but yet claim to enjoy JPRPG’s (which are mostly boring same ol same ol crap and this is coming from a big Square fan in the SNES and Playstation days)

It comes out tomorrow, but they’re meant to send it early so that it arrived on the release date. It even says that the dispatch estimate was today. Seems they’ve just decided not to. Seriously, fuck Amazon.

EDIT: Oh wait, apparently its been dispatched just now… At nearly 9pm GTM… What?

That sounds about right when you order Release date shipping they typically ship that very night prior to release.

@77

Well I must be closer to a shipping center, every time I order with release date shipping it ships at 1am as I said. Anyways point was they weren’t going to forget you lol. I’m getting from gamefly this time though, hence the extra days wait for mine.

@fearmonkey, i enjoy(ed) JRPG for combat and for character customization and skills in most cases.. JRPG have nothing to do with WRPG.

also, if you enjoyed F3 or Oblivion. Good for you, i and some people who played Morrowind don’t like Oblivion because in my opinion it’s a dumbed down experience and really uninspired piece of a game compared to old titles. Same goes with Fallout 3, although Fallout:NV was amazing.

Maybe SKYRIM will be much better than i expect. I never played it so i can’t say much about it.

Also, i’m not a hater i just have strong opinion on games and have taste to not enjoy every shit out there. If you liked these games good for you. Some people like Wii sports or Just Dance. Good for them.

@81 – I don’t get the dislike of Fallout 3 but feeling Fallout:new Vegas is amazing…. I have and finished both, and preferred Fallout 3 overall.
Fallout:NV had some great elements but I thought the bethesda game was more polished overall. It was also way buggier than fallout 3, and I was unable to finish the game the way I wanted to because of a bug that Obsidian never fixed. I bought the game six months after Launch, and to this day that particular bug isn’t fixed.
The DLC for Fallout:NV though has been great so far, better than Fallout 3′s with the exception of Broken Steel and my favorite, Point Lookout.

So not a single reviewer thinks it’s less than a 9. Okay!

@82 Fallout 3 and New Vegas are probably great if you don’t really have a reference, but compared to the old games, they really don’t cut muster.

They’re very toned down in terms of all the offensive shit that you’d find in the original Fallouts, and they both rely way too much on a stilted up main plot, when the whole appeal of the originals was the sidequests and the batshit insane world you explored. The main quests were completely ridiculous.

Ultimately when you change those things up, you’re going to take flak from the people who sunk hours and hours into the old games. Fallout 2 is one of very few games I’ve played where I’d honestly not know whether it was dawn or evening when I’d look up from the monitor.

New Vegas did slightly better on adding a bit of craziness and interesting content to the wasteland, but even the developers themselves have said that there were huge discussions within the development teams, where the new developers wanted to make it all “realistic” and the original Fallout crowd would lobby for a more authentic approach.

@85 – I played the original fallouts and other games in that ilk by Black isle. I really enjoyed them, but I guess I prefer the immersive first person RPG style over the isometric gameplay of the past. I loved the more recent Dragon age games, the witcher, two worlds 1 and 2, and the Gothic and Arcana series, but much prefer first person rather than Third or isometric.
I would die and go to heaven if someone made a planescape game in the FP style, or a new Heretic style FPS……
To each their own…..
I’m just happy that Bethesda makes Elder scrolls games, there was a new Deus ex game, an upcoming Thief game, and a new syndicate game on the horizon. They may not be exactly or anything like their original titles, but im happy that the series is still of interest.

I received my copy of the game 10 hours ago, I just stopped playing, so i could go to bed and get some sleep. The game is amazing and totally fulfills any expectations I’ve had. I mean, I feel like I will never get to explore the whole game, it really is THAT big of a game. You can pretty much do anything that you would think you could do in the game, and besides that the graphics are–to me–the best graphics I have ever seen!
I have BF3, UC3 but skyrim still takes first place.
Anyways, you all have something in store for you tomorrow. I am so glad I didn’t order the game for pc (I ordered for ps3) because then I’d be stuck with the stupid ass pre-load and waiting, just like some of you might be doing right now.
I’d say this game immerses you like no other game has ever done, and I think part of it really has to do with the amazing graphics. It just looks so beautiful, and you can’t stop feeling like it’s a real world, because you know there is so fucking much land you haven’t covered, and dungeons you haven’t explored, and you maybe never will, unless you play for more than hundreds and hundreds of hours.

Skyrim is just like the first time you’re having sex.
You don’t really know what this thing is, it’s like another world to you, but you’re very intrigued, and when you finally get to it. It just feels so good.

For me, Skyrim is an everlasting orgasm. I hope every fan may enjoy it as much as I am.

FOR DOVAHKIIN!

To be honest, Fallout 3 was a freakin disaster compared to old titles.

Just played the first two or two-and-a-half hours. Barely scratched the surface, but seriously, utterly impressed by the depth of the world. And like I said, that’s only before starting to properly dig into it further.

This could be the first Bethesda RPG that truly grips me (been in and out with past stuff, only thing that comes close to that kind of attention for me is Fallout 3).

level 5 by now – male khajiit -warrior stone picked. LOVING the game. had to force myself to stop playing now but i have to get up early. well deserved scores if the game stays this good. the dungeons are so well designed, so much stuff to do. everywhere theres something to find. almost too much. really good voice acting. animations remain stiff here and there but overall it plays (and looks) so much better than oblivion imo. the world is beautiful. entering some snowy mountain pathways seeing a troll in the distance while listening to the awesome sounds of the game…so good.
