Konami has released its financial results for the first half of its fiscal year, and the firm reported double yoy profits thanks to social game sales tripling. Compared to the same period last year, sales were up 6.3% to ¥123.1 million ($1.5 billion), with net income up 173.4% to ¥11.5 million ($146.5 million).
The firm’s Digital Entertainment sector brought in ¥58.1 billion ($747.7 million), and as previously mentioned, tripled in growth from from 8.7% to 26% yoy thanks to the Gree network in Japan, which the firm’s social games Dragon Collection (11 million users), Professional Baseball Dream Nine, Hisho Collection and J. League Dream Eleven are played.
Pro Evo moved 2.93 million copies during the period, bringing the game’s unit total to 7.36 million sold worldwide. Pro Yakyuu, the firm’s baseball game, sold 970,000 copies.
PS3 was the company’s biggest platform and accounted for 37% of unit sales, with PSP claiming 23% of sales. Xbox 360 and Wii titles followed, respectively, with Japan as the top selling territory for the firm’s games.
The region had 3.04 million units sold, followed by Europe with 2.52 million moved, and the North America’s 1.66 million sold.
Combined software units sold by Konami for the period reached 7.36 million, which is down 2.69 million units compared the last year’s 10.05 million units for the period.
