Microsoft: Early MW3 playing “may” risk Xbox Live ban

Friday, 4th November 2011 06:57 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Got a copy of Modern Warfare 3 early? Is it for Xbox 360? Online-connected? Protip: probably best not to play it until next week at least.

Director of Policy and Enforcement for Xbox Live, Stephen Tolouse, has said anyone playing it before its been authorised for full play by Activision may end up risking a ban.

He said: “clarification: dblchk’d with Activision. Mw3 pre-release play not authorized. So pls be patient. Playing early may impact your account!

It comes hours after he said that if anyone started playing the game, as long as it was a legit copy, was fair game.

Tweet went like this: “For those asking about MW3 pre-release play: If your copy is legit and obtained legitly, have fun. It’s a great game.

Probably best to avoid going online with it until at least Monday. For those who haven’t come into possession as yet, it’s out on PS3, 360, PC and Wii on Tuesday.

Ridiculous. Seems obvious at this point MS just cant tell what copies are legit and which arent, so its bans all round, just in case.

I don’t think they’ll ban anyone with a legal copy. Early or not.

Guys, read again. If the copy is legit then you don’t have to fear anything.

Avarage person on the street does not know about release dates, so if he or she walks into a store and sees MW3 on the shelves they’ll just buy it and start playing like any other game, including online.
They simply cannot ban you for doing that.

Verry simpel: if you do not want people playing your game, do not sell it to them.
Bitching about it on Twitter is meaningless.

What’s ridiculous is depressing Sony fanboys not willing to read past the headline.

^ lol Can you read? Go on then, explain to me what you think this means. Here let me help you:

-First they said that as long as your game is legit, its ok.

-Later they said that in fact just playing the game early, legit or not, “may impact” your account.

Ok then, so lets hear your MS defending apologetics on this.

^ What they ‘ve said is (let me italicize that for you): dblchk’d with Activision. Mw3 pre-release play not authorized. So pls be patient. Playing early may impact your account!

Look up the word ‘apologetic’, then google for PSN downtime articles.

^ I will, just after you look up the term ‘red herring fallacy’.

    #14 3 years ago
  15. DaMan

^Oh really, that term which you weren’t even able to come up with on your own? Yeah, I know.

  16. Gekidami

lol What? That doesnt even make sense, now you’re just rambling.

But anyway, enough of this, i’m not going to partake in another attempt by you to derail a thread.

  17. DaMan

I wasn’t rambling. Point me to the red herring part.

They aren’t banning you for playing your copy early, they’re banning for pre-release play.

If addressing tryhard fanboys is considered derailing threads, then I’ll continue to do that.

Er, how does Activision protecting its product turn into a MS/Sony bitchfest? The worst you could accuse MS of is employing a guy who really should of checked his facts before twittering o_O

    #23 3 years ago

^ Don’t let silly things like facts get in the way of a good argument.

The only people who deserve to be banned from MW3 are those punk ass kids who hack the game ruining the fun for everyone. Just look at MW2. Black Ops barely had any.

    No bans:
