Quick Quotes: Ed Fries on gaming’s future in the cloud

cloud

“I think that’s the question all the retailers are asking themselves. Part of what’s exciting as a game developer is that it’s easier and easier for us to make things and get them right out into the hands of people. There aren’t a lot of hoops we have to jump through or a lot of people we have to talk to. If you’re going to put an app up on the app store, a guy can do that in a garage. In a way it reminds me of the old days when it was just one of us making a game and you’d put it on a bulletin board and people would see it and download it. We’ve kind of gone back to the future.” – Ed Fries to IndustryGamers.

jaxanddax

BT Games, a South African online retailer, has listed an HD collection for Jak and Daxter on PS3. While nothing concrete has been announced by Sony, a source close to the matter hinted to Gematsu back in May that a “dark, dirty, and dangerous” collection was in the works. That hint, just so happens to be the name of a mission in Jak 3, which Naughty Dog released on PS2 in 2004. While BT Games notes the price and date for the collection are TBA, a placeholder date of January 20 is listed. We’ll be sure to send a mail on this. Thanks, Gematsu.

Quick Quotes: Schofield on his Modern Warfare 3 concerns

modernwarfare3header

“We were very confident after Dead Space, especially with our development processes. We knew we could deliver within a deadline and with a lot of polish. And that confidence was exactly what was needed. But there are days [with Modern Warfare 3] when you think: ‘Holy shit, this is a monster’. There is a lot of stress. It’s not crippling, but the thing that worries me most is people going: ‘Look, there’s the guy who brought down Call of Duty!’ That scares the crap out of me.” – Sledgehammer co-founder and former Visceral head Glen Schofield to Edge (via CVG).
