Quest choices affect progression in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

A new trailer outlines the unusually freeform but story-driven character progression of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Reckoning doesn't insist players keep to one particular class, allowing them to grab abilities from all over the place, changing their build significantly as it grows, or even wiping it entirely clean and respecing for a fee.

What options are available to the player is instead guided by "fate" - depending on what you do during quests, and which characters you woo, you may unlock special fate cards which can't be found anywhere else.

It sounds kind of neat, and certainly more fun than stacking all your points on dex. See the explanatory trailer below.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in February 2012.
