Fans will be able to get their hands on the Xbox 360-exclusive console version of indie smash hit Minecraft at MineCon next month.

“We are thrilled to announce that MineCon attendees will have the opportunity to play Minecraft on Xbox 360 months before the public release,” the developer revealed in a post on the Mojang blog.

Microsoft is set to be a major sponsor of MineCon 2011, which takes place in Las Vegas on November 18 and 19. The strength of the relationship between the independent developer and platform holder has resulted in Microsoft winning an Xbox 360 exclusive for the upcoming console port.

“Minecraft on consoles is Xbox 360 exclusive!” Notch confirmed.

A teaser for the Xbox 360 version follows.

Minecraft is also available in its original form on PC, and for Android smartphones, following the expiration of an Xperia Play exclusivity period.

I’m curious as to how this will work – will it be SP only? If not, how will the servers work? Surely you won’t be able to connect out? Will updates be as frequent?

Why it is exclusive for Xbox 360? Whats the point? It’s not like people will jeez all over themselves to buy Xbox 360 for minecraft.

PC is the best place for it right now because of the latest patches, MODS, cheat codes that helps building stuff, multiplayer.

Why would I ever want to play this on consoles? I’m all for a handheld version, obviously so it can be played on the go, but this just seems pointless. If I have access to my console, I also have access to my PC. And my PC allows me to do anything while playing, and use mods. I just really fail to see the end benefit in this.
