BlizzCon: GSL Finals – SlayerS_MMA bests IMMvp 4 to 1

Saturday, 22nd October 2011 15:53 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

BlizzCon hosted the first Global StarCraft League finals held outside of Korea last night at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, and the event pitted two Terran against one another for a $100,000 prize. In a five-game bout, underdog SlayerS_MMA bested IMMvp, four games to one.

While IMMvp was favored to win over MMA in the GSL finals, MMA started the first game off with “proxy barracks and factory,” guessing IMMvp would start with a “fast expand”. Guessing correctly, he apparently used siege tanks before IMMvp could react to his assault.

In the second game, MMA used Marines and Marauders in a defensive move against IMMvp’s Siege Tanks, which worked, because he won the second match.

For the third match, IMMvp’s tanks “rolled over the heavy bio and fast expand,” of MMA, so he won that round.

IMMvp, fresh off a victory in the thrid round lost the fourth game after trading bases.

In the fifth and final game, MMA used “medvac play and nukes” to defeat IMMvp.

So folks could watch the match between the two, the convention center was left open late, and both halls were filled to capacity with spectators.

You can check out the schedule for today’s SCII matches through here.

The matches were amazingly good, though the audience there were even more amazing, from the look of the crowd there must of been thousands maybe even 10,000 but we didnt see the size of the second hall. When that many people come to watch E-sports, you know E-sports in general is going to have a bright future, one of those events which makes you proud to be a gamer.

I have to agree with you, an absolutely amazing matchup of MMA vs MVP. All the drops, all the nukes, all the siege tank a SC2 fan could hope for xD

    How is skill monopolic? o.O

@3 I dunno, he keeps winning tourneys haha. It wouldn’t be so bad if he had some sort of equally matched rival, but so far very few’s been able to beat him, and if they had it hasn’t been consistent
