Warhammer Online not at risk of shut down

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning isn't going anywhere, not even the candy-filled nirvana that is Freemium Land.

"No, no," BioWare Mythic boss Eugene Evans told PC Gamer at GDC Online when asked whether Age of Reckoning is on its way out because EA's other MMORPG - Star wars: The Old Republic - is on the way in.

“All of these games appeal to different people for different reasons. I’m very proud to be able to say that I’m running the studio that’s run Ultima Online for as long as it has – 14 years. Dark Age of Camelot just celebrated 10 years.

"We hope we can run these games for as long as there is player interest.”

Moreover, Mythic has no plans to take the game free to play.

“We believe in the community of players who are playing Age of Reckoning. Yes, we could have attracted a lot of players to it [with free-to-play], but it’s unclear how long you’ll keep them. We wanted to support our game as it currently exists," the executive said.

Mythic instead has the MOBA-like title Wrath of Heroes. Evans says starting a new game represents a "better approach" to entering the freemium ranks than converting from an existing model.

“We’re really starting almost from the ground-up but having the benefit of being able to draw on everything we’ve learned from producing Warhammer Online,” he said.

Thanks, Massively.
