Sony confirms 20mb restriction on Vita 3G downloads

Wednesday, 12th October 2011 21:44 GMT By Andrew Groen

At the GDC Online event today, a senior Sony engineer confirmed some of the PlayStation Vita’s hardware limitations.Sony Computer Entertainment America senior staff developer support engineer Chris Norden confirmed that 3G providers will still be imposing a 20mb limit on media and game downloads for 3G-enabled versions of the system. Much larger downloads, however, will still be possible via a wi-fi connection.

Norton also said that speculation that Vita is as powerful as a PS3 is completely untrue. “That’s not true. That couldn’t be true. The things would burst on fire in your hands or something,” he said.

He did, however, confirm that the system will be capable of supporting developers who want to implement microtransactions and free-to-play business models into their games.

Well, not that I was going to give AT&T any of my money, but I guess this should confirm what version to get.

I think the headline may lead to confusion a little, because there seems to be a relation between this “20 mb restriction” and “hardware limitations”
some may think if they don’t read the full article that the 20mb restriction may be because a hardware limitation..

“Norton(or Norden?) also said that speculation that Vita is as powerful as a PS3 is completely untrue.”

some ppl see the grafics and read other ppls thoughts of that and automatically put that on a level with generally “as powerful as a PS3″

@4, It’s roughly half as powerful, at one point somebody (can’t remember who,) said they had it on the same level as the PS3 but it melted the hands & chewed through batteries.

I know for sure that it has more ram than PS3 which means that it is powerful in some areas.

and if you can write the engine that is heavily on ram then PS Vita for sure is more powerful. LOL
