Red 5 Studios and Webzen settle legal disputes over FireFall

Saturday, 1st October 2011 18:01 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Red 5 Studios has announced it has entered into a settlement agreement with Webzen, to resolve legal disputes filed on both sides, which inlcudes the withdrawal of all pending legal claims.

Earlier this summer, a dispute erupted between the two firms over the amount of marketing Webzen has invested in Firefall. Red 5 alleged Webzen didn’t provide enough marketing for its F2P online shooter Firefall, which it felt was in breach of contract.

Red 5 sought to have its contract with Webzen terminated, and was requesting $5 million in unspent funds.

Webzen said it had been waiting for the game to be completed before beginning the marketing campaign, and the title’s multiple delays were what was causing the problem.

Apparently, that is all water under the bridge now, as under the new agreement, Webzen will receive compensation for the prior development fees paid to Red 5 and also will share in future revenue generated from Firefall for an undetermined period of time.

Red 5 and its affiliated company received the global publishing rights under the settlement agreement, and Webzen will no longer be involved in marketing and publishing Firefall in any territory as a result of this agreement.

That’s that, then.
