PlayStation Vita set to revolutionise AR
Traditionally, Augmented Reality (AR) uses an AR marker or an AR card. The PS Vita does not. Discussed at today’s Tokyo Game Show keynote, Kissei Matsumoto explains that Sony’s upcoming handheld uses Wide Area AR – doing away with single cards and enabling multiple markers to create a wide player field.

Resistance: Burning Skies showcased in TGS Vita keynote
At today’s Tokyo Game Show keynote, it was revealed that there are 26 confirmed launch titles – and more than 100 in development. One of the supreme highlights: Resistance: Burning Skies – an all new Resistance game developed from the ground up just for PlayStation Vita.

FFXIII-2 gets formal dates, special PS3 hardware bundle

Windows 8 dev preview downloaded 500,000 times
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said during his keynote at BUILD today in California, that there have already been over 500,000 downloads for the Windows 8 developer preview which launched yesterday evening. The preview comes with the new interface, better desktop performance, and a new interface for tablets called Metro. MS also confirmed yesterday Xbox Live would be included with W8, with more details to be announced at a later date. The Windows 8 developer preview can be downloaded here. Thanks, Newowin.

Trine 2 video shows off the lovely environments

Hi-Rez starts accepting beta applications for Tribes: Ascend
Hi-Rez has announced it’s now accepting applications for the Tribes: Ascend closed beta, which is scheduled to begin in “the next few weeks.” Players can apply for this initial phase through here, and Hi-Rez Studios will be granting access to thousands of hand-selected players worldwide as well. During the beta, players will partake in two gameplay modes over four multiplayer maps, and will have access to three vehicles. There will also be 12 playable classes to choose from, and multiplayer matches of up to 32 people.
Hi-Rez Studios will continue to increase the number of beta participants through the end of this year in preparation for a general game release in Q1 of 2012.

PayPal for Diablo III and Battle.net announced by Blizzard
Blizzard has announced that PayPal will be its payment-service partner for the Diablo III auction house, in most regions. It will allow players who trade with real-world currency the ability “to cash out the spoils of their battle-torn adventures via a PayPal account.” PayPal will be added in several regions soon as a payment option on Battle.net for digital purchases of Blizzard products and services. Region-specific information and further details are to be announced in “the near future.”
Meanwhile, the Skill Calculator for Diablo III, which allows gamers to preview and refine their ability set, is live.

GameStop outs possible Catwoman DLC for Arkham City
GameStop has apparently outed some Catwoman DLC content for Batman: Arkham City. Shown in a listing for the Limited Edition Official Strategy Guide from BradyGames, which states the slippery feline-like woman will be the recipient of “4 episodes” of DLC. We’re unsure what these “episodes” will entail, but we’ll dangle Warner a mail and see if we can get a bite. Batman: Arkham City is out October 18 in the US and October 21 in the UK.

Second PES 2012 demo released on Xbox 360
Konami has released the second PES 2012 demo on Xbox 360, which also landed on PS3 this morning as well as PC. The demo gives player a full 10-minute match and introduces the Challenge Training mode. Teams included are FC Bayern Munich, FC Internazionale Milano, Rangers FC, Club America and Sport Club International. The first demo wasn’t released on Xbox 360 due to “issues on both sides”, meaning Konami and Microsoft. Hopefully, the second demo will make it up to you. PES 2012 will be playable at the Eurogamer Expo 2011 next week, and releases at retail in mid-October. The PSP and PS2 versions are expected for a late October launch.

Quick Shots: MGS3: Snake Eater 3D screens from TGS 2011
Konami has released three shots for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on 3DS. The game will be one of the first released to use the recently announced 3DS slide-pad. The game is slated for a winter release in Japan, and in English speaking regions during 2012. Thanks, GamesRadar.

Tekken 3D: Prime Edition shots get out of TGS 2011
Namco has released a few shots of Tekken 3D: Prime Edition on 3DS. Upon release the game will include 40 characters, and a copy of the 3D CG film Tekken: Blood Vengeance.
