Tag Mode in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 becoming popular outside of Japan may be challenging

Taichi Inuzuka, producer on Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, has explained why online PvP was added with the sequel and what he feels could make the game’s tag mode popular with players outside of Japan.

Speaking in an interview with Siliconera during TGS, Inuzuka said he added online PvP because it was one of the biggest requests from fans of Joker 1, and also “because adding them would enable players to enjoy the game longer.”

“The thing that made adding this feature difficult was the amount of time we had to spend checking it during development,” he said. “Checking communication features during development is rough.”

As far as Tag Mode in the west is concerned, Inuzuka said making it a popular feature will be a bit of a challenge compared with Japan.

“It certainly won’t be easy in expansive countries,” he admitted. “Japan is small, so it’s easy for circumstances to arise in which a number of people pass by each other, but that’s not the case in bigger countries. The situation would change if a country had DS Stations serving as tag mode relays all over the place.”

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 launches on DS in Europe October 7.
