Team Ninja channeled the spirit of the Tokyo Game Show season tonight with two new game announces and details of Ninja Gaiden 3’s online multiplayer.

Called Unmask, the swank Shibuya event kicked off with a discussion of Ninja Gaiden 3, but most ears were held eagerly open for word of a heavily teased new game announce: Dead or Alive 5.

It’s real. It’s coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012, and carries the amusingly mis-understandable strapline “Fighting Entertainment”.

Discussing Ninja Gaiden 3, the long-awaited follow up to the the studio’s flagship series, Team Ninja focused on the second of two design streams – “consequence” – as opposed to that seen at E3 – “sword”.

While the game’s intent to add weight to players actions has been bandied about before, Team Ninja showed its taking it pretty seriously, showing off a new piece of key art.

It’s also taking the series’ famous difficulty seriously, demoing the game in hard mode – after a few technical difficulties. One of the producers died three times in the attempt and had to switch back to normal mode.

The game’s online multiplayer won’t sport hundreds of Ryu’s brawling; players will create their own ninjas. It will support eight players.

Team Ninja also confirmed Ninja Gaiden Sigma for Vita, due some time next year, as leaked by Famitsu ahead of this week’s festivities.
