Rockstar drops first Max Payne 3 trailer – watch it now
Boom. That’s a megaton boom, baby. All for a trailer.

Rockstar’s released, as promised, the first trailer for Max Payne 3. This comes two-and-a-half years after the game was first announced.
The game’s being made by Rockstar’s Vancouver studio, with help coming across from studios in New England, Toronto and London.
The video details how Max got his new job in Sao Paolo, as well as answering the question of how he went bald.
This is a ruddy great trailer that you can get below. Get watching, gringo.
Max Payne 3 launches next March for PS3, 360 and PC.

I don’t know why but the plot itself reminds me of “Man on Fire”.

Wow now, what’s with the heavy aliasing? I have faith in Rockstar to make a quality game though. But i agree, it doesn’t really have that Max Payne vibe…yet.

@3: How many years would you guess have passed for Max, since MP2?
I thought that was a really good trailer. I didn’t know what to expect when they showed his new look before, but this just might work, and I’m interested to see how it’s going to play

@6 I just said that this trailer didn’t bring back almost any feels to me from let’s say the first one. I do know that this is only a trailer, but they should have put in something for the oldschool fans too. I can’t even see there any bullettime effects etc..
So this can be good in the end, but from only this material I can only guess, that the feel to it won’t match the predecessor’s thats all.

^ Huh? I suggest all you naysayers watch the trailer again, you’ll notice the following.
1. They had the classic Max Payne voiceover.
2. They had the classic Max Payne music.
3. They showed Max Payne in his traditional look with black suit, hair, then shaving it off, it’s 10 years later, it makes sense.
4. They showed FOUR (yes count em FOUR) firing shots going in slo mo hinting at bullet time.
What more do you want for a first trailer?
I think they did a great job. Yes it’s different, but they’re keeping true to the original WHILE ALSO pushing forward in a new direction. Respect.

I don’t feel Max Payne noir in that trailer.
Although i’m sure if it’s made by Rockstar North it should be a very good game.
Or should i say a good sequel to Max Payne 2.

@ Erthazus: Nah theres definitely no noir in there. But this game is now officially on my radar. A few weeks ago I had this down as Meh Payne. I was wrong.

In the last couple of years Rockstar have saved a couple of games (RDR and LAN) from being average and given them the extra time to be polished up into 90% Metacritic averages. Even though the studios can still go bust afterwards it makes a pleasant change from Disney/Codemasters etc.
So I reckon this will at least be well presented…

Yep. definetily, no charm at all.
It looks like Kane and Lynch 3 or rockstar’s typical game with reskinned characters. One of the huge hooks for the first 2 games were the graphic novel / Film Noir stylish storytelling and it’s atmosphere.
Everything is missing here. Just a typical your everyday 3rd person shooter won’t do the trick.
Of course, thank god that it’s not a DMC situation, but disturbing because it’s still a rockstar North’s game and Rockstar = Quality

The only thing that was Max Payne in this trailer, was the music. No Remedy = No Max Payne, very simple.

It didn’t feel like Max Payne to me either, yeah it had the music and the original vo cast, but it doesn’t have the noir feel anymore. But hey, I’m sure it will be a great game.

The only problem is the story AND story telling will be complete shit. Lets take a look at the first two stories by Sam Lake.
Max Payne 1: A detective with nothing to lose looks for his wife and child’s murderer while getting caught up in a world of organized crime. Ends with him avenging his best friend and family.
Max Payne 2: Back on the force, Max dives back into past over a woman in the first game. The game ends with him getting over his families death and finally at peace with himself.
I dont see how you can stretch that story into another game. The second game ended with closure and the original development team moved on.

To me it just looked like any other Rockstar game, like theres some written rule that every game has to have a guy behind a desk surrounded by goons.
Maybe its Euphoria but they all just tend to blend in with one another after awhile.

I see, a lot of you people don’t seem to be familiar with Neo Noir flicks like City of God. Oh well, gotta be leather coats, New York City and low colour saturation to be Noir for you folks, right?
@13: Not made by R* North. Main Developer is Rockstar Vancouver. Then comes Toronto, London and New England.
@27: Ouch. So you don’t see how a new place can also bring a new story? Did you thought this comment through?

Its barely a new story though, in fact its just Man on Fire.
Actually why not just make a Man on Fire game? Oh because they already had the IP and could just shit out a white Denzel swigging from a bottle of KONG.

Looks good.
I hope they don’t try to “diversify” from the original game. Max Payne is one-dimensional, the story should be entirely self-contained, without any sort of nuance, and it’s supposed to be driven forward by the action.
I fear they might try to reinvent the wheel, when people are perfectly happy with the ones they had.
Personally I wouldn’t be very interested in a Max Payne 2½. Max Payne 2 was essentially Max Payne 1½. It was still entertaining, but it was hardly inspired in any way, shape or form.

@30 stop thinking you’re right about everything. You’re clearly up your ass, it reeks.
Whats going on with Max Payne 3 does not suit his character at all, neither does it suit the ‘weird, mysterious and creepy’ vibe that 1 and 2 had
But please humour us some more with your “OH MAN I’M SO ABOVE EVERYONE RIGHT NOW THAT I’M GONNA MASTURBATE TO MY MIRROR… AGAIN!!”

@DSB,
“Personally I wouldn’t be very interested in a Max Payne 2½. Max Payne 2 was essentially Max Payne 1½. It was still entertaining, but it was hardly inspired in any way, shape or form.”
Agree 100%. I really don’t want Max Payne 2½. By the looks of it, it sure is not that.
but still, i miss noir and stylish atmosphere from the first two games and as you said… Yes, i don’t want them to reinvent the wheel.
@38, relax, he masturbates in front of his mirror all the time. Especially if you will say that new DMC look is horrible. After that you will see a giant post full of shit because you are WRONG!

@38: You’re making this pretty easy for me, since you clearly don’t put any thought in your comments.
“‘weird, mysterious and creepy’”
You must be talking about the dream sequences, nothing really weird, creepy or mysterious about the games.
Max has no reason to stay in New York. He lost his wife, his child, his lover. One of his best friends turned out to be his worst enemy.
He has no reason to stay in shape, no reason to go on. Going to a completely different country makes sense.
Why don’t you humour me and tell me what you think suits and doesn’t suit the character of Max Payne?
@39: Cry harder.

I love the music brings up the memory but I have more Gta vibe at beginning and more Stranglehold vibe when shooting started.
But agree there very no noir

This has been off my radar for so long, and now it’s back. I agree with Edo, it does remind me a bit of Man on Fire, but I loved Man on Fire, and thought this trailer looked awesome. Now I’m definitely looking forward to it come March 2012 (though I’m callin it now, it gets pushed back into May, just because this is what usally happens with their games) [GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, need I say more]. Admittingly, I’ve never played the Max Payne games, so I hope for some HD re-release (on consoles) of the first two before this comes out, so I can maybe get some background on the story a bit more.

Looks totally average. Anyone interested in playing this should be banned from VG247. I can’t believe you’d want to fund these dicks who just want to rape the franchise.
Give Remedy 50 extra employees and let them make it.

Funny how some people still try to make this game look good for themselves after this poor trailer.
It’s not Remedy
It’s no Max Payne Style
Rockstar Games don’t have good stories
Rockstar Games don’t have good controls (this gen actually)
Rockstar Games don’t have good main characters
Please discuss :F

5. The main character? Max Payne!
