Famitsu leaks point to second 3DS circle pad – details

Famitsu leaks have detailed an alleged 3DS add on with a second circle pad, lending credence to earlier rumours of the twin-control peripheral.

According to Andriasang‘s usually reliable sources, Famitsu is carrying a preview of Monster Hunter 3G, the first entry in the series to grace a Nintendo portable and a revamped version of Monster Hunter Tri for Wii.

Monster Hunter is a raging success on the PSP, where the lack of a second analog control is bemoaned as one of its severest detracting features. The 3DS version will one-up its PSP rival by catering to a first-party peripheral which sits over the console’s face buttons, with an extra circle pad set to the right of the usual ABXY configuration.

If true, it’s expected that Nintendo will announce the new accessory tomorrow. The New Monster Hunter is apparently due in Japan before the end of the year, suggesting the peripheral will also be available shortly. Engadget has a shot of the scanned image here.

The add-on was rumoured last month alongside a hardware revision with twin controls built in, as well as a de-emphasising of 3D features. Keep your eyes glued to the TGS; Nintendo’s presser may be a bonanza.

Thanks, 1UP.

Still can’t believe they didn’t include a second one in the first place.

Yeah, so why didn’t it have two sticks from the get-go? Are we living in the dark ages?

Waiting for a revision means I’ll have more time to decide between Vita and 3DS.

It seems that 01net source is pretty sure, what i dont get is why you never ran the second part of their series on the WiiU, there was plenty of interesting info from the same source about the tech not working and the devs having trouble with it, along with news of a possible delay.

Seemed pretty news worthy to me.

http://www.01net.com/editorial/537918/nintendo-lenvers-du-decor-wii-u-un-developpement-a-probleme-(2-5)/
From the same source that dropped the the news of this analogue peripheral.

I did a quick overview of what it says in the News thread:

“French site has sources that say Wii-U is having development problems. Mainly that the main chip that handles the streaming and other wireless functions between the pad and the console is too weak to do the job, and has been for the last three prototypes (the forth is expected by the end of this month). It seems its due to Nintendo using cheap material, after all, they dont want to charge to much for the console.

It also says the devs are working with a dev kit that right now has an extra little black box that helps with the connection to the console, but even with that, it isnt working correctly. Because of this devs are feeling a little lost, like they’re working blind, and its stopping them from using the pad to the fullest.

Finally it gives an opinion piece about a possible delay and any sacrifices Nintendo might have to make, and says that internally at Nintendo, they’re now talking about a September 2012 release rather than june.”

Holy shit! That’s one ugly-arsed add-on.

What the hell are Nintendo doing? They’ve just effectively confirmed a total hardware redesign and pretty much killed sales again until it appears.

@9, Bahahahaha, that looks terrible. Nintendo in panic mode is really a poor sight for any gamer.

To me, they really look like someone that put a foot wrong and can’t seem to balance themself and just go crazy arm flailing all over the place.

PIC OF IT – http://psp2roundup.blogspot.com/2011/09/3ds-tries-to-keep-up-with-vita-adds.html

Odd, since the PSP Monster Hunters sold millions without a second stick, and this is being touted as a MH add-on? Guess others will use it too tho.

This is an absolutely terrible idea. Adding new controls essentially means resetting the userbase back to zero again. Developers are not going to enjoy that fact.

This format is dead in the water.

Bit of a joke this, they’re basically saying “ur, yeah, we should’ve included a second stick, so here’s an addon that doubles the size”.

Rubbish.

It’s really incredible, nintendo what have you done with the 3ds? 3ds is probably the worst designed console ever. Did nintendo even making some effort in the 3ds development?

I never liked its hadware, its lineup and its initial price.

Is the second analog not mandatory right? If so most of the new games won’t be designed with the second analog in mind making it(and the redesign) futile.
Example: a game(resident evil?) could use the second analog for aiming and the touchscreen for the inventory, but in this case who don’t have the second analog can’t play… the only solution is to not support second analog and touchscreen together… or giving the second analog for free(rotfl)

Even with the add-on it doesn’t look half as ugly as the new PSP.

Releasing it at this point won’t harm them at all, the thing was just launched. Besides the second analog will likely be used in a very limited set of handheld games.

@17:if for “ugly” you mean “good looking” you are right! LOL

^ Pay no attention, if theres a chance to say something against Sony (even when its as off topic as it is here), you can bet DaMan will take it.

Rather ironic that someone who goes on about how the games industry is just about ‘toys’, seems to harbour such strong, negative feelings about one of those ‘toy’ makers.

I just happen to have a different taste. The thing looks like crap to me, just like it is good looking to you.

…… ‘LOL’

Gekidami, for someone who comes across as a planted Sony agent you have an odd sense of irony. Besides I don’t know where ‘d the ‘strong’ feelings come from, perhaps you should reevaluate your perception, soldier.

I also tend to just being realistic.
