Uplay Passport missing from 360 copies of Driver: San Francisco, Ubi issues workaround

Driver: San Francisco, the first title from Ubisoft to require Uplay Passport, is missing the code required to play online for the Xbox 360 version, according to a report on Joystiq.

Copies of the game being sold at retail do not include the Uplay card, which contains a code required to access multiplayer once the initial 48-hour trial has expired.

The Uplay Passport card included in North American copies of the game apparently contains a code which will unlock DLC, but is missing the one for multiplayer.

CVG reports that the cards were incorrectly printed, so Ubisoft had to come up with another strategy to get folks online once the 48-hour period was up: it did this by making it free until things are sorted.

“When you begin Driver: San Francisco, you are prompted with the Uplay Passport menu. The menu has 4 options: “Purchase Uplay PASSPORT,” “Activate my Uplay PASSPORT,” “Start my 2-Day Free Trial,” or “Remind Me Later”.

“There are two ways to access these online features: 1. Select Start My 2-Day Free Trial, which will not expire, OR 2. Select Purchase Uplay Passport, which will be provided at no charge. Either option will unlock the 11 multiplayer modes and the Film Director feature on console titles with Uplay Passport.”

    Ubisoft has to be the most incompetent publisher in videogame history, second only to Atari.

    I actually checked their earnings last time this came up, and they’ve managed to lose 40% of their PC business over the last fiscal year. They lost 27% the year before that (prior to launching Ubisoft Online Services Platform). A total loss of 57% of their profits on the PC.

    In the same period, Activison have doubled their profits on the PC (not including MMOs) and EA have lost 4% total over the last two years.

    So, Ubisoft – Is eradicating your own marketshare on the PC really the best way to solve your piracy problem?
