Bullet Time: Sold-out Call of Duty XP event detail blowout

The first live Call of Duty XP event takes place in LA today and tomorrow. The action kicks off at 11AM PDT/7PM BST/4AM AEST, and we’ve put together a round-up of what you can expect to see over the two-day event.

Those times again…

US PDT (Los Angeles): 11:00

US EDT (New York: 14:00

UK BST (London): 19:00

AU EST (Sydney): 04:00 September 3

Call of Duty XP, the sold-out live event that is set to blow the trumpet for all things CoD-based, starts today. We’ve put together a run-down of what you can expect, when. There’s live feeds, Call of Duty Elite details, competitions, public hands-on time with Modern Warfare 3 and – no, let me finish, man – Kanye West.

Of course, Call of Duty XP could not be considered a sold-out event unless Activision had actually sold all of the tickets, that’s just how it works, and so the publishing giant will have been delighted – and a little relieved – that yesterday it did just that, as noted by Shack.

The event will host 6,000 fans over the two-day event and will be the first public unveiling of the multiplayer elements of Modern Warfare 3, attendees will get to see it action before playing it for themselves.

However, if you’re not one of the 6,000 CoD fans who stumped up $150 to attend the party in LA, you can still steal a peek at proceedings through the magic-window of the internet. The event will be streaming live via both theCall of Duty XP website and a dedicated Facebook app.

Plus, there’s a live blog to accompany the action if you’d like to read-all-about-it as it happens. The full schedule of events for both days is conveniently outlined for you so you can plan your viewing around less important things like eating, drinking and bathroom breaks.

Live musical performances will be provided by Dropkick Murphys – “known for their complex distillation of classic punk rock, Celtic folk and American rock’n'roll,” it says here – who will perform on the opening night at 8pm PDT, whilst Mr Kanye West will be wrap-up the event at 8pm PDT on Saturday.

Robert Bowling is fairly excited.

Two monster give-aways have been confirmed for the event: a redemption code for afree copy of the Hardened edition of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will be presented to each and every attendee. Plus, 32 four-player teams will compete for $1 million in cash and prizes in a single-elimination tournament – you can track the progress of the tournament ladder , and you can also can expect details of many of the matches to be shown via the live stream.

Finally, to get primed for the two-day bonanza, why not take a trip with Robert Bowling as he presents an event walk-through and if you want to read some words on my time with the game from a little earlier in the year, then nip over to the hands-on impressions for a look-see, in which I label CoD a niche franchise much to the consternation of many.

Call of Duty XP takes place Friday 2 and Saturday 3 September, all ticket sales benefit the Call of Duty Endowment, a charitable cause for army veterans.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 launches worldwide on November 8, expect queues.

Thanks, we have that but we’re checking embargo details with Activision. From what we’ve been told there’s an embargo in place for XP assets until much later today.

You can be sure that we’ll have a whole load of MW3 and XP stuff up as soon as we’re given the nod by Activision. Steph’s at the event for us.

It’d be nice if there was a page on VG247 showing all the embargo dates/times for content.

Not sure about the trailer, parts of it seem a bit unbalanced (magical grenade launcher, bomb defusing robot with a gatling gun).

@4 – A tissue for what? Did you watch the BF3 Mp trailer again?

In all honesty that trailer sucked… Very boring.

You’re either very insecure, or very boring. Or both.

@1, wow… they try so much by showing something with that 1999 year old engine. It’s not even hillarious anymore. What they did show nothing more than something like a “Homefront” sequel team deathmatch mp without vehicles.
Physics are especially great for a 2011 game. Oops, they don’t have any… Not even Havok.

also, they are trying too much for the team deathmatch showing and they fail to deliver. What they did right is with these medals (killstreaks). Now it’s going to be less clusterfuckness.

At least that trailer was console footage & not running on a high end pc, like all the trailers from that *other game*.

@9, except that you are wrong and all their CoD footages are from a PC dev kit (with AA, filters and etc.)

Same quality will be on the 360, PS3 and PC. PC will get extra features like what you see on the trailer but they won’t make the game look better. It’s a super lazy development.

^ So that trailer is how it will look on my ps3? I mean “Same quality will be on the 360, PS3 and PC.” pretty much sums up what I said about that trailer looking like It will on my ps3 right?

Cool :)

Really looking forward to both games tbh. I don’t understand the hate, don’t like it don’t buy it. Simple.

change change change , FFS stop it !!

we all saw what happened to DMC, PES, RE and many other games

change is NOT good in video games

graphics is not a factor, saints row and dead rising suck in terms of graphics, but theyre still fun to play

as for the BF3 trailer, it looks boring despite the high technology theyre using
