Heavy Rain gets toned down edition for France
European game ratings body PEGI’s rated a toned down version of Heavy Rain. The Quantic Dream thriller was given a PEGI 18 (BBFC 15) when it launched last February. Now the new version, Heavy Rain Edition Modifiée, has been given a PEGI 16. This new version does feature “realistic looking violence, nudity of a sexual nature, and strong language,” however. Sony’s told Eurogamer it’s a French-only thing, though.

Batman: Arkham City to be playable at EG Expo
EG’s announced that it’s to have Warner’s Batman: Arkham City playable on the showfloor at this year’s Eurogamer Expo. Arkham joins Battlefield 3, Dark Souls, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Saints Row: The Third and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations to name a few as playable titles for the show. Saturday tickets have sold out, but there are still some available for the afternoon, as well as full day tickets on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. here.
Eurogamer Expo takes place from September 22-25 in Earls Court, London. Batman: Arkham City releases in the UK on October 21 for PS3, 360 and PC.

FIFA 12 demo date dropping in Cologne next week
EA’s announced that it’s to announce the release date for the demo of FIFA 12 next week. Guess what happens next week? EA’s press conference at gamescom. Here’s the tweet: “When will we announce the demo date for #FIFA12? At #Gamescom – next week!” Super duper awesome. FIFA 12 releases at the end of September in the UK for everything under the sun.

Levine: BioShock Infinite “looked like ‘BioShock 1 in the sky” at one point
Irrational creative head Ken Levine has admitted that at one stage during its development, BioShock Infinite had the look of the series’ first game, only in the sky.

London Games Festival to take a year off
UKIE has announced that there’ll be no London Games Festival this year, but has said it intends to have it return next year alongside the 2012 Olympics. UKIE said this morning it was planning to have a “major commitment” to the event next year, as well as a partnership with TIGA, which went undetailed. Despite there being no LGF this year, events which normally form the event will still happen, including Eurogamer Expo at the end of September and Intent’s London Games Conference in November.

Ex MGS boss Kim joins Zipline
Ex Microsoft Game Studios head Shane Kim has joined mobile games group Zipline. Kim will be brought in to advise on the company’s game development platform Moai, which is being used by Harebrained Schemes for Crimson, the first game to be published under Bungie’s Aerospace program. Kim, who was also recently added to GameStop’s board of directors, is also expected to help smooth studio partnerships.

New BBC iPlayer launches for PS3
BBC’s announced this morning that its release an all-new version of BBC iPlayer for TVs. The new version is “specifically designed” for the living room TV. It comes with a new design, an improved search and the ability to add favorites. V3 of iPlayer is now available on PS3, with it coming to other “many more TV screens in the coming months.”

Nintendo details 3DS Ambassador Program in scrolling text form
Nintendo’s released a video of how the company’s Ambassador program will work in the UK following the bombshell announcement a couple of weeks ago of a worldwide 3DS price-cut that takes affect from this Friday. Dark Souls gets delayed by a week in Japan
Namco Bandai’s announced a delay of Dark Souls in Japan. But as pointed out by 4Gamer, it’s only a short one: it’s a week-long delay from September 15 to September 22. As far as we’re aware, the UK and US dates are unaffected, and are still on for October 4 and 7 respectively. You watch for a lot more on the RPG from us between now and next week in Germany at gamescom. Just saying.
