Quick Quotes: Zeschuk on launching SWTOR

Friday, 26th August 2011 19:52 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

“We’re doing our very best to get it out as fast as we can. With a game like this, getting it all right, getting all the server stuff right is just as important as getting the game right. We’re trying, as fast as we can. That’s the reality. It’s literally live right now; we’ve been doing a lot of testing with a lot of people behind the scenes. The things you need to get done to ship this are very different from a standard game. This game’s launch is going to be one of the biggest launches ever in the history of gaming. Our job is really simple: making sure it’s great when it comes out. We’re going to do the right thing for the fans, for the product. It’s a big deal but we’re doing our very best to get it out as fast as we can.” – Bioware co-founder Greg Zeschuk on getting SWTOR out the door. (via Eurogamer)

Having kinda dipped into a bit of Rift this weekend, I’m starting to think that Rift and SWTOR will be in a lot stronger competition with eachother, than either will be with WoW neccesarily.

That isn’t to say that all three won’t see an exchange of users, but I’m not sure SWTOR will provide an argument for people with a WoW persona all built up, to switch swides. More likely it’s going to speak to what’s missing from Rift in terms of an appealing, coherent gameworld, rather than just generic fantasy-something-or-other.

The less WoW people in SWtoR the better, as far as I’m concerned. All these excuses not to release a proper date and pricing are doing my head in.

@2 Frankly I didn’t like Rift as much as I liked to and I dropped it after a month. One advantage SWTOR has over Rift is the fact the fan base is very strong and the game has an actual lore with a – I hope – evolving story to back it up. Rift is truly boring in that regard, it could’ve been much better but it isn’t. Balance issues and irrelevant class combinations was another issue for me not to get all excited about it.

Well I truly hope SWTOR really brings it, I like to play a descent scifi mmorpg.

@3 WoW people aren’t necessarily some sort of brain cancer. Every online and MP game has its good and bad, best and worst, so cut that crap please it ain’t helping your case.
