OXM: Fable IV set for 2013 release

Monday, 22 August 2011 08:25 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Fable IV will release as a fully-fledged title in 2013, according to the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine. The rumour section of the mag said: “Look for the Fable cycle to continue with a proper, controller-based Fable IV in 2013, says The Ball.” The last main title in the series, Fable III, released last year. The next edition in the series The Journey, a Kinect-only title, releases next year.

It’s not as good as Fable II, but it’s still a laugh.

I’ve still not picked up Fable 3. It got middling reviews, then it got buried in the Christmas releases rush, then I… sort of forgot about it. Might have to go and see how cheap it is now.

Let’s see if I can look into my magic ball and predict Microsoft 2012 E3:

    1. Fable
    2. Halo
    3. COD timed map packs
    4. More non exclusive 3rd party stuff

Yeah that pretty much covers it!!

Fable 3 was a big step backwards to be honest. At the end of the day a very underwhelming game.

Fable III and II were a horrible mess in every aspect there is. Casual piece of shit. Third just fixed second games problems, but thats it. More of the same crap from Moulynex. The problem is not because they are so arcadish or because there is no RPG… but because the adventure is so simplistic… So stupid and retarded that you don’t want to explore this world. There is nothing to explore and there are no characters to love. Combat is also one of the worst in videogames. Juct click one button… It’s even worse than casual.

first game is still the best from the series. It was the only good game from the series.

I’m not buying Fable anymore. Fable is being milked for casual boys and girls and good for them. I just don’t care.

@2 “on related topic, i am planing buying fable 3 on PC. any good”

You should not, unless you are a fan of Moulynex and casual shitty RPG games with shitty combat system.

@9, I found Fable II to be a fun experience, could have been a little more open with more depth, but it was a decent game, the original was great & the third is okay at best.

Bought the original on XBL & Fable III near the same date, played the original twice as much despite being outdated.

& not quite on topic but the Halo remake still uses the same polygons, what the fuck is up with that?

    #10 4 years ago
  11. Erthazus

I finished Fable III and felt empty inside. Just got more pain in the ass with the “Good” and lame ending.

Fable III is nothing more than just a milked and fixed Fable II that was broken to begin with.

Witcher I-II or Gothic series cries all over it.

  12. Fin

Erthazus, I mean this with all sincerity.

    Go. Fuck. Yourself.

I’m so sick of your cynical bullshit. You really have to come in to every story, even about games you don’t like, and spout crap. Seriously, I would have a much more pleasant time on this site if I didn’t have to read the shit you write.

    #12 4 years ago
  13. Christopher Jack

@11, They’re designed for different demographics, you wouldn’t go comparing Sesame Street with God of War now, would you?

@12, To be fair, you don’t have to read what he writes, he’s just spouting his opinion that tends to go against the majority of us gamers which makes him think that he must be superior to us all.

If I flick through the comments section, there he is, “shitty sub-HD casual”. It’s hard to miss.

  15. Erthazus

@12, Go F yourself console fanboy. No one cares about what you said.
Fable 4 topic and Dance central are the only ones that i posted so far, so get out.

    @13,

“that tends to go against the majority of us gamers ”

majority of console fanboys. Okay? On kotaku or RPS a lot of people agree with me. Just because you started playing with Fable games does not mean they are god games and I accept your opinion if you are new to gaming but after Gothic series or Witcher I, Past Zelda games this is pathetic.

    “They’re designed for different demographics”

    ESRB: M
    PEGI: 16+

No. It was designed for me. It was just a bad game. Fact.

    #15 4 years ago
  16. Fin

You’re such a fucking moron. Where did I ever say I’m a console fanboy? I think I’m over 200 games on Steam. Idiot.

Ya, the Fable 4 topic, where you came in saying “hahahaha shitty casual sub-HD better on PC”. Just shut up. Fuck, is that so hard? Here’s a tip, every time you type the word “shitty” or “fanboy”, chances are you shouldn’t be posting at all.

“On kotaku or RPS a lot of people agree with me.”

Please please please please leave this site and go there, where everyone shares your attitude, and you can bitch and moan to your hearts content.

Age rating isn’t an indication of the target demographic, it’s how old you have to be to play it. You’d know that if you weren’t an idiot.

    Also, the Witcher is shit.

Edit: Just checked, 203 Steam games (206 -3 Mac/PC Civ IV duplicates).

  17. cgalla2000

Well this turned nasty pretty quick, heh :D

Fable II was alright, it was very broken in places and I remember the framerate being down right offensive at times. But I found that by the time Fable III came round I had absolutely no desire to play it at all. The whole premise just looked a tad dull now.

    #17 4 years ago
  18. Erthazus

” Here’s a tip, every time you type the word “shitty” or “fanboy”, chances are you shouldn’t be posting at all.”

Here’s a tip, every time you type the word “moron” “idiot” or “fuck” chances you are shouldn’t posting here at all..

who are you here to say that i can’t post something? If you don’t like my opinion just ignore, but i guess it’s too hard for your fanboyish brain.

“Age rating isn’t an indication of the target demographic, it’s how old you have to be to play it. You’d know that if you weren’t an idiot.”

Yeap. It’s an age indication of the target demographic. Exactly. Kids won’t play Mature content or you are so stupid to understand that?

Oh, i guess they can play God Of War 3 too.

    “Also, the Witcher is shit.”

You are too stupid for it to understand. Go back to your Halo and Fable.

    #18 4 years ago
  19. Fin

I’d just like to point out how cgalla communicated his opinion that he doesn’t enjoy the Fable series.

No references to other series. No references to consoles. No swearing (“shitty”, “retarded” etc). No references to graphics. No disparaging remarks. No personal attacks.

    WHY CAN’T EVERYONE DO THIS

    #19 4 years ago
  20. DrDamn

Fable 2 didn’t grab me, but I had fun with it and it was easy to see why some people would love it – there was lots to like. Fable 3 was a mess. Some really bad design decisions from a team who usually work hard on these sort of things. Stuff like finding a new pair of gloves and having to teleport back to your house, wander down to the right room then feck about with awkward menus to simply put the damn things on. It was one of Lionhead’s shortest dev cycles for a big release and it really showed. The sort of stuff they like to do can’t and shouldn’t be rushed.

    YOU’RE SO MENTALLY INCOMPETENT.

I’m not saying you can’t post, I’m saying that everyone would have a much more pleasant time, enjoy this site more, and generally live happier lives if you didn’t post. Just so I make myself clear, you’re causing people to live less happy lives by posting.

    Again, YOU’RE SO MENTALLY INCOMPETENT.

AGE RATING IS NOT AN INDICATOR OF DEMOGRAPHIC. IT’S AN INDICATOR OF HOW OLD YOU HAVE TO BE TO PLAY THE GAME. DO YOU REALLY THINK CIVILIZATION’S DEMOGRAPHIC STARTS AT E10+ or 12.
BY YOUR RATIONALE, THERE ARE NO GAMES MADE FOR PEOPLE OVER 20. I’M SORRY TO BE SHOUTING, BUT MAYBE THIS WILL GET THROUGH YOUR STUPIDITY.

HALO IS NOT ACTUALLY THAT GOOD A GAME. FABLE II WAS, BUT FABLE III WAS OK. YOU’RE SO MENTALLY DEFICIENT.

    “Fuck”, “idiot”, “moron” count: 0

It’s hard not using those words when talking to you my man :(

    #21 4 years ago
  22. Fin

Again, DrDamn was able to eloquently show why he disliked Fable III, with an appropriate example. He even commended Fable II, while saying he personally didn’t like it.

SEE ERTHAZUS, IT’S NOT THAT HARD TO DISAGREE WITHOUT BEING A TOTAL DICK.

    #22 4 years ago
  23. viralshag

Fable was the best but I think that is mostly nostalgia talking. The series has evolved since then in terms of graphics but I think gameplay and like DrDamn said, a few dodgy design choices.

I still find the series enjoyable and fun to play. The humour is harmless and gets a few giggles. I will no doubt get the next one. The Journey however, I think I will happily let that pass me by… on rails… Only kidding Pete. ;)

    #23 4 years ago
  24. Erthazus

@Fin, using caps lock makes you an idiot. Also, this is an internet. You can’t shout. Don’t make a fool of yourself.

“DO YOU REALLY THINK CIVILIZATION’S DEMOGRAPHIC STARTS AT E10+ or 12.”

Yes. Absolutely. Because it’s a very casual-friendly strategy game.
(!) Just by saying that it is a Casual-Friendly does not mean that it is a Bad Game.
I started playing Civilization I when i was a kid. 8-9 years probably. Civilization II was my first game from the system parents bought me and it was also a gift from my friend (i mean the game).

    “YOU’RE SO MENTALLY INCOMPETENT.”

    the irony.

    #24 4 years ago
  25. Christopher Jack

@Fin, you’re wasting your time, surely you have seen me post near identical comments to no avail, he can’t respect or even accept the fact that people have different opinions.

    #25 4 years ago
  26. Fin

Bro, just so you know, using capital letters on the internet implies the user is “shouting” those words. I know they’re just letters on the screen, but that’s a convention. A bit like italics provide emphasis, as do bold, and things struck out means it was a mistake.

    “very casual-friendly strategy game.”

    “Also, this is an internet.”

    And then…

    ““YOU’RE SO MENTALLY INCOMPETENT.”

    the irony.”

    @Chris

    Yeah that’s what I’m thinking.

    #26 4 years ago
  27. viralshag

@24, I really think you should just accept the fact you made an incorrect comment with regards to the age rating somehow being linked with target demographic. They’re not the same thing.

@Fin, I understand your anger but fuelling the fire doesn’t help anyone. The problem is, almost everything passes for fuel in that guys case.

  29. WraithCross

Okay, first off. All of you who are bitching about Fable III are also the same fucking people who kept posting, and ragging about why the release of the next fable game taking so long for it’s release. You want a good game, quit blowing up the main forms, and let the people work for fuck sake. Yes Fable III was crap in comparison to Fable TLC, and Fable II. But that’s only because every person who was bitching on the forms about the amount of time in between games wouldn’t quit your damn whining. So suck it up, pucker your asshole, and get over it. Because of all this shit is why I’m thinking their not going to advertise a new game till probably a week before the games supposed to come out. Because they are tired of all of your shit. Do any of you really know the work that ACTUALLY goes into the games you love playing? I STRONGLY Doubt it. So all of you quit your god damned bitching, and shut the fuck up.

Yeap. It’s an age indication of the target demographic. Exactly. Kids won’t play Mature content or you are so stupid to understand that?”

Yeah, you are horribly wrong here… The games creator do not set that age rating, it is set by the appropriate ratings board for your region based on their interpretation of the content, just like films…

    #30 3 years ago
  31. Ajdragonis

    @Erthazus

Ummm… hate to tell you man but the Age rating has no relation to the demographic the game was designed for, as it is generated by a neutral third party not actually involved in the games development, as #30 said. IE: Fable III and Crysis II both have an ERSB rating of M… by your logic, that means they are both targeted at the same demograpic. Now, I do, in fact, own both and play both on steam. But my wife does not play FPS’s… nor do alot of people I know. I also know alot of people that Play FPS’s who do not play RPG’s.

ON that note though, I tend to agree with you. Fable: The Lost Chapters was a great game, Fable II was nice, but had some stuff broken with it and Fable III left me with a feeling of… that’s it?
