AU News Wrap, August 22 – What happened today

Monday, 22nd August 2011 08:20 GMT By Brenna Hillier

It was a beautiful day. The sun shone, birds sang, I drank a lot of cough medicine and news flew from my fingertips like nourishing rain on the earth of the Internet. One or more of these things is not true.

At gamescom, Alex spoke to one half of BioWare’s famous doctors. Inexplicably, he failed to ask about Liara.

The week ahead is going to be brilliant, because we’ll have loads and loads of excellent content from gamescom. If you have a pointy stick, put it through the bars of Pat, Johnny and Alex’s cage and screech, “transcribe! Transcriiiiibe!” until they fling things at you.

Still, one of the highlights of the year has passed – although, with the madness of gamescom behind us, it’s now just a few weeks until the Tokyo Game Show. As a result, I spent much of the day panicking about whether I can possibly get everything done before then – but as they say, it’ll all come good on the night. What a pity it’s a daytime show.

It’s going to be a really mad few months.

Today’s header is an image from Battle Angel Alita, a manga which cropped up in conversation today and is 100 percent pure awesomesauce. I found the wallpaper here.

    Nice header and I’m with you there! Gunnm (we kept the japanese name here in France, just as we kept the character’s name: Gally [well Gari in japanese but still]) was the very first manga I read and I still read it from time to time nowadays because it’s so awesome! But shame on you for making me hope there’d be some Gunnm-related video games news :P

    @1 Ha ha, I wish there was. I never played the PSOne game.

    @2 Yup.

    I’m going to pick up the second series soon though – I mean, the continuation, you know. Really looking forward to it, I’ve loved this manga since I was a kid.

    @3 the “sequel series” (is it called “last order” too in english-speaking countries?) is quite good too but unfortunately way less than the original. Worth a read, though! I’m three or four books late, gotta catch up! And I never played the PSOne game either but heard it was shit… If that’s like the two animes that were produced, I’m glad I didn’t try it :P
