Koelnmesse's announced this evening that this year's gamescom hit 275,000 attendees in the five days the show took place.

The event seen 557 exhibitors from 40 countries attend this year from the 505 in 33 countries in 2010. 300 games were shown between Wednesday and the final day today, up from 200 the year before.

Despite worries of congestion and safety inside the Koelnmesse yesterday, the up-shoot in attendance - last year seen figures of 254,000 people - sees gamescom continue its dominance as the world's biggest public trade show ahead of Tokyo Game Show: this year's show will happen between September 15-18.

Earlier this week, GDC Europe organisers announced that 2,100 attendees from 57 countries turned up at the event.

gamescom 2012 takes place between August 15-19, while GDC Europe will happen beforehand on August 13-15 in Cologne.
