DmC to give Dante new backstory, make it a key game mechanic

This is getting ridiculous now.

I don’t get all the rage surrounding these changes. This is was a reboot / revision means.
And after the disaster that was DMC4, I think the series had only two ways to go:
1. Get back Kamiya for a true sequel to his original DMC1
2. Go the remake / revision route.

i hope they will sell the rights to platinum and we will see a true devil may cry game again

yeah id rather prefer option 1 and the thing is as a whole this series really did not need a reboot that’s why i hate it so much, its so unnecessary. DMC4 was the best selling title in the series yet.

This is just capcom shitting over everything i used to like them for…again.

well i was going to give this the benefit of the doubt, but now given that they are going to retcon dante’s backstory they have officially lost me as a consumer of this game and i hope it sucks worse then a uwe bol movie!

DMC4 may be the best selling in the series but it’s also the worst and the one that at least for me, killed any interest in the great characters and mythology of the first and 3rd game.

This is not even Devil May Cry anymore. Shame.

I like to see what Ninja Theory will do with this series, they have the benefit of the doubt in my mind, i like to see new things in this series, and if this translates into good new gameplay mechanics, sign me in yo have my money capcom.
P.S i dig the new style, emo or not, i like it, i think it fits really well the early years of a younger person.

@7- it was hardly worse than DMC2 and i admit i am not a fan of DMC 4 either but it hardly called for a reboot

I was intrigued and interested by the interrogation business and style, the focus on Dante from the TGS reveal trailer. I see this, and instead I start to equate what’s to come to a ‘safe’ reboot. If that happens, thanks a bunch!

So I’m guessing they’re adding some moral choice system?

Why are capcom still going through with this? Its pretty clear that EVERYONE hates it.

God, the first few comments just show right away why it’s health for Every developer to ignore so called “Fan” comments.

“They are rebooting it and dare to change it?! HOW COULD THEY! I’M A FAN! I Deserve to get the same game every year! But Call of Duty sucks!”

If they don’t change it, people will ask themselves “Why did they even bother?”

Seriously, how much do you know about Dante? His father was a half demon, his mother a human, he has a brother. And … wait, that’s it. How dare they change such a deep and engaging backstory.

Being the son of Angel and Demon would explain why he’s as strong as he is. He’s neither angel nor demon. Doesn’t fit into any role. An outsider, like the X-Men, if we’re honest.

@9: It’s not really emo, if anything it’s Punk. Uninformed people just call it emo to “win” any argument. The only mistake Ninja Theory made, is expect the fans to know a little bit about the outside world. Most people still think that Dante wears the Union Jack because he’s english, not knowing that the Union Jack is a symbol for Punk.

@15 well said!! The newly released gameplay trailer looks fine to me. The gameplay mechanics seem to largely be the same combo,launch,ect. Let’s give it a chance. Ninja Theory’s cutscenes and voice acting are always above standard so that’s a huge welcome over the hokey capcom version of Dante.

#15 Yes i did thought it was punk too, although it seems like it has a little bit of gothic too, but nevertheless like i said i do like it a lot, it fits the early years of a younger person, therefore i will wait for this game, all the previous games from this dev were really good, they have my vote.

Edited. Look at that new sexy western boy next door looking Dante. Half-demon, half-angel, just perfect and fresh, not like crappy TV shows. Those graphics and art design look so inspired and original, Unreal Engine 3 never looked so good! I’m sure that you’ve heard this rumour too: Dante, not being a human anymore, worked in a circus, cleaning horses’ shit and he found his new weapon there. That weapon allowed him to do better stunts and he owned the circus for a while, traveling around the world. When the circus got burned down, because of Dante’s (new) angry father in Heaven, he wanted revenge but what he doesn’t know is that his mother (new) in Hell was the one behind the burning of the circus. Now he’s angry for revenge, very angry, even drugged up. Once he’s out of the asylum he realizes that in all the time he was there, the world changed a lot. Robots are a reality and Twilight clones run all around. What new adventures will this new angelic-demonic Dante have? Go find out when buying this new promising game from Ninja Theory one of the -if not the- best game developers of our times. Now notice all the previous was sarcasm and spend your money into something better when this comes out because if I ever had the slightest hope of this being a good game (and I’m not only talking about the new Dante but about the WHOLE story and specially the crappy looking gameplay and graphics) it’s now gone for good.
