Capcom’s released a new trailer for Ninja Theory developed DmC Devil May Cry and it shows a young Dante hacking and slashing at everything in his way. The video shows various environments from the game, with Dante hacking enemies in each one. It looks fun. The game’s scheduled for a 2012 release on Xbox 360 and PS3. Why the game looks worse then it’s predecessor? It looks empty.

Too much slo-mo for the hack&slash genre, although it’s great to see that some original Dante moves are there.

Still, i’m very sceptical. This looks not better than Resident Evil: RC crap by another studio that knows shit about the title.

The creators said that they’d do countless DMCs but don’t hold the title anymore so basically: we’re fucked :<

Loved the third, but this looks just as Erthazus said: empty.

Well I thought it looked pretty good.

Just finished Enslaved, which was awesome – hopefully this’ll be decent!

Hmm, it did look a bit “empty” – like the build was v early – but still looks fun!

    Nice Gameplay, terrible character design!

The Devil May Cry games always looked empty, but yeah, this doesn’t look so hot. A case of same old, same old maybe.

There may be two reasons why it looks empty: First they need to add useless stuff that Dante can break in order to gain more orbs or Second, the environment is supposed to be part of the gameplay, meaning it’s shifting and all that.

Anyway, looks fantastic, recently replayed Enslaved and can’t wait to see what ninja theory has in stores for this tired franchise.

Hope to see some information about the story soon.

@8: If you’re not happy with a unique looking videogame character, maybe you want to go back to your short-buzzed Space Marines.

@10: So you are telling me that de NEW dante is looking better than the old dante?!
Man what in the gods name is wrong with you!

What they need to do is out-do Bayonetta, because as we all know that’s where Hideki Kamiya is now and DMC1 probably still holds the crown for story, location design and indeed probably the gameplay. I much preferred the way Devil Trigger worked in DMC1 for example.

@11: Definitely looks better than Dante in DMC3. DMC was also too anime inspired. With time, Dante looked like every japanese videogame character ever made.

Im still not a fan of Tameem’s Mary Sue Dante but aside from that, it appeared to be a video of Dante using the same combo about 10 times. Which was interesting.

“DMC was also too anime inspired. With time, Dante looked like every japanese videogame character ever made.”

and it should be that way.

Keep your Western crap in your mouth. It’s you who is looking for the “short-buzzed Space Marines” with Emo haircut.

    blergh.

I dig dantes new style, not that the old one is bad, but i like this also, it reflects really well the younger years of dante.

@15: I agree with your first point. Dante is, was and always has been a Japanese creation. As an additional thought to what I put in the other thread, that TGS trailer was pointing towards a direction of a western agreeable take on that character. Now, maybe we get same old, and Ninja Theory get to wonder why they bothered.

I don’t think that the TGS trailer was flawless, but they were definitely on to something, with the increase in action, the aggressive framing, more urgency, and concluding with youth Dante casually exhaling a cigarette to the sky, positioned on his back lounging atop a gargoyle high on the rooftops above the city.

@15: Erthazus, doing what he does best: Showing how little he understands from the outside world. Keep going buddy.

@18: While i’d agree that the first Dante should be Anime Inspired, i disagree with the rest of the series.

Ninja Theory is known to deliver deep characters with real emotion. It wouldn’t have worked with the Anime-Dante. Dante always behaved like a Punk but looked like a Cosplayer. I’m glad Ninja Theory did the changes they did. He feels more “real” as a character.

  20. Erthazus

“Ninja Theory is known to deliver deep characters with real emotion.”

Epic sentence. Well of course, if you don’t read books in your life then of course. School drama is so epic with deep characters and R E A L emotion. Twilight is probably your favourite movie ever! :D

@18, the reason why CAPCOM wanted to do DMC with them because Ninja Theory is a cheap developer that don’t cost a lot to Capcom, same goes with Slant six Games where they develop SOCO…Resident Evil:RC

and they want to try out and see if they can sell better copies then before, but they unleashed a massive hate from fans of the series.

Music is far better than the last trailer, but I still miss the old rock of DMCs.
Well, I’ll buy it anyway and hope it will be good. But it’s not japanese anymore. So I’m a little sad about this.

I’m not sure which changes you’re referring to, do you mean TGS 2010 “DMC”, when you say Anime-Dante, or Devil May Cry traditional? I thought TGS was an anime inspiration, framed using western themes. But, I want to ensure there is no confusion. :) I am not impressed with the trailer shown today. I liked TGS’ exhuberence, the sense of drive. Even though it had some hot air it’s heart was in a likable place. This trailer looks like a reskin of DMC4. I get no character from this in the slightest, deep or otherwise.

  24. SplatteredHouse

@20: The ones that created Heavenly Sword, and Enslaved are to you a cheap developer? I don’t think anyway you can try to frame it that the term applies here.

“and they want to try out and see if they can sell better copies then before” Which, is no bad thing. Devil May Cry was running out of steam. 4 didn’t resound as clearly and decisively as some of the earlier games. Why not get in new blood to consult, and take things in a new direction. Build with, and from working parts and ditch the accumulated clutter for next time.

Be cautious of dismissing things totally on the first attempt. NT’s game should be seen and played before it is judged, but many people jumped all over its first trailer.
(I don’t judge their game today, but I do say today’s video does nothing for me.)

What I don’t quite understand is that they went through all the trouble if giving this game the reboot treatment, and the only thing that appears to have changed is the character’s personality and appearance. I mean WTF!? The gameplay looks exactly the same as it did in the original Devil May Cry games.
I find it very hard to believe that Capcom believe the problem with Devil May Cry laid within Dante’s character; he was the best part of the game for crying out loud! They freaking made a bloody anime about him!

PS. everything all seemed a little too clean in the environments. There’s nothing there!

    @25

It’s capcom they aren’t the brightest developer. Look at RE:Mercenaries. One time only saves? They actually thought that was a good idea. Then RE5 they remove the horror and make it a Gears of War with zombies in Africa.

@20: I know Erthazus. I bet you think it’s something remarkable and worth mentioning that you read books, but the truth is; it isn’t. Especially in your case. As i said before, learning the ABC with Winnie the Pooh is no difficult task to master. But i guess you gotta start somewhere, right?

btw. This is probably the 50th time you mentioned Twilight. I think we understand that you have a clear obsession with the franchise. What i don’t understand though, is why you keep sharing it on a game site.

@22: You can bet that the music will be completely different. That’s also one of the things they are aiming at.

@25: And the anime was incredibly shitty. Because of Dante. Yes, i said it. There isn’t really much depth to Dante’s character. He’s either funky or sad. Most of the time funky.

    #27 3 years ago
  28. Erthazus

“but the truth is; it isn’t.”

because you don’t read at all. For you school drama from NT games are REAL emotion.
You speak like Don Matrick: R E A L entertainment
    R E A L emotion. Lawl.

“What i don’t understand though, is why you keep sharing it on a game site.”

Because i know that you are a fan of school drama stuff, so that vampire “”masterpiece”" is probably for you.

@25, “They freaking made a bloody anime about him!”

anime was crappy to be honest. Madhouse did a poor job of the game adaptation.
I don’t remember when MADHOUSE did something awesome with the game adaptation. They are great at doing their own stuff.

#28 the x-men, wolverine and supernatural anime are great adaptations from madhouse that are not their own, but they are not game adaptations though.

  32. YoungZer0

@31: Wow, your niveau drops with every day. I know what you’re thinking. I’m just as surprised that this is even possible.

But i guess i can’t expect you to talk like an adult, knowing you don’t even have friends in your age. ;)

    #32 3 years ago
  33. SplatteredHouse

@25: yeah, to go so far and yet still be left with this, afterwards. It seems odd to me, too.
@27: When Dante first appeared he didn’t have much depth. Sure, there was a story in the first game, but Dante made quips and shot and sliced things, in style. It’s not necessary for Dante to be the in-depth character.

If it can be done, that’s not bad, but in the anime then I imagine (as I haven’t seen that yet) that there’s much more needed of Dante, than the things he’s doing and the way they’re done. As you say, then maybe the character cannot stand with that kind of weight. The character is not to blame in such case, though.

    #33 3 years ago
  34. YoungZer0

@33: I blame Capcom actually, as most of their games seem to include shallow characters.

I always felt that a character like Dante and the world he lives in deserve more depth. Always disappointed to see Capcom fail on that.

    Knowing Ninja Theory, they’ll deliver.

This is looking pretty slick from where I’m standing.

As long as the mechanics hold up and the controls are nice and tight, that’s all that really matters to me.

Nothing new in that video. In fact, it only solidifies my opinion that the graphics are awful and the game play is non existent.
