Planetside 2 details show it’s still hardcore

Monday, 15th August 2011 21:10 GMT By Andrew Groen

The original Planetside is one of the most treasured games in the history of PC gaming. So needless to say, fans are more than a little protective of it now that there’s a sequel in the works.

However, new comments from Sony Online Entertainment’s John Smedley and Producer Matt Higby should give at least some small comfort to Planetside fans.

They gave an extensive interview to FPSguru.com which includes awesome nuggets of information like destructible environments, dynamic weather systems and friendly fire in the FPSMMO.

They also took this opportunity to again reassure fans that any potential Cash Shop would be handled, and that they would not be selling power for money.

You’re right. Edited that part out. Forgot that hadn’t been announced officially, though there are plenty of rumors and SOE has a history of doing so, especially lately.

A history of what, making MMOs for consoles and porting them to PC just because? I would hope they know not to screw with PlanetSide 2 like that, it doesn’t belong on any other platform.

With such an engine, it belongs to any platform. What is most dissapointing that Planetside 2 engine is for the EVERQUEST NEXT too. It looks hideous and i have no idea how it’s going to be implemented in to that important title for Sony.

I guess there were plans for the PS3 version from the start, but something went wrong.

But at the same time i’m happy that they are focusing just for the PC version. DC Universe Online is a mess and they can’t patch it just because of two platforms. One is retarded for patches that have not enough install base to play it, another one demanding more features and fixes and leaving one by one everyday.

I guess EQ3 won’t be coming to PS3 (thank god), because with the DC Universe Online experience (and EQ2 experience of shitty addons and shitty support even on PC) they want to focus just for the PC and make it right this time.
