NPD to begin tracking digital, mobile games sales in Europe from Q4 2011

NPD's announced that it's to begin tracking sales of digital and mobile games in Europe from around October-December this year.

The group will use "existing pan-European market research capabilities and established methodology" to help determine "insights into and across the world’s most influential global markets."

It's another big announcement from NPD this week, having announced on Monday it was to collaborate with EEDAR on sales data in the US.

The service will apply at first to the UK, France and Germany, with a "further expansion" to come in major Asian markets.

"The new digital distribution channels in video games are not country specific. They are global in nature, which is why NPD is taking its proven, proprietary methodology, developed over a number of years, and applying it to a global perspective,' said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.
