Report – Walmart drops 3DS price a few days early

Tuesday, 9th August 2011 21:11 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

It looks as though last week’s rumor is true – some Walmart store have indeed dropped the price of 3DS a few days early before the cut is supposed to officially go into effect.

Walmart, unsurprisingly does this to get the jump on competitors, but it will also cause those who are not early adopters to get in on the Ambassador’s Program set up for those who paid full price for the system at launch.

However, according CheapAssGamer, some stores are just holding pre-orders for the 3DS at the $169 price – same as the official website. Others, who have seen the handhled on sale at their area store, have reportedly been able to get Best Buy to match the price early as well.

So, we suppose at this point it just depends on your general area of the country and whether or not the Walmart in your area is desperate for you business today or is content to wait a few more days until the cut is sanctioned by Nintendo on August 13.

Thanks, GameFront.

Well.. They can do it. Hasn’t Nintendo said more then once “It’s up to the store owners to decide the price of the 3DS.” ?
So.. if the store owners wants this, it’s sanctioned already, and not just from August 12. (not 13.. It’s till august 11, 23:59)

On the other hand, I am betting that they won’t get compensated for 3DS’ sold before the 12th. After the 12th on the other hand I am betting they are getting compensation for the “losses” the game retailer has for the stock 3DS they already bought in before Nintendo announced this price cut.

But all together: the customer is the one to benefit. Even though i already own a 3DS, I am not “against” some few lucky people getting those 20 games. In fact, if I hadn’t gotten that 3DS already, I might be one the few in line to get this at a cheaper price :P
