Catherine moves 200,000 units in first week
Atlus has tweeted a picture of a cake, which shows that Catherine moved 200,000 units in the US at launch. Earlier this week, Tim Pivnicny, VP of sales and marketing at Atlus stated that sales for the title had “exceeded” the firm’s “highest expectations,” and that it was the “largest launch in the 20-year history of Atlus.” Congratulations. Thanks. Joystiq.

Woo-hoo! Yay for off-the-wall games that become huge sales successes! (Let’s all pretend everyone who bought it actually has great taste instead of buying it for the sex, okay!?)

I hope this game in particular sales well, just to give courage and strenght to other developers to try crazy unproven stuff, nice done atlus once again.

@3:
I expected the same thing from it, but there’s not all that much sex in it. I watched my wife play through the whole thing and it’s just a really good puzzle game folded into a Japanese dating sim.
I recommend it.

@5: I know that, but I don’t think everyone who bought it did. But hey, if it helps sell more copies of a genuinely interesting game, I’m all for it. Three cheers for Atlus!

Heh – what was it I was saying the other day about boobs and marketing?
Anyway, congrats to them – they’re a small outfit and they deserve every success. Now use that money to fund Persona 5, please.
