The team at Capcom working on Street Fighter x Tekken decided on a single-character elimination system because of their love for Tekken Tag Tournament.
“”Basically, all the guys on the Street Fighter x Tekken team making the game – a lot of us are fans of Tekken Tag Tournament,” producer Yoshinori Ono told Destructoid at Evo in Las Vegas over the weekend.
“So we wanted to have some essence of Tekken Tag Tournament and we narrowed it down to using that system which is similar to what they use.”
In both games, the defeat of one member of a two-character team results in player loss, but Ono hinted that Street Fighter x Tekken will employ a more complicated system.
“That said, I’m from Osaka. In Osaka, we’re notorious for being cheap, or at least for trying to make the best of what we’ve got, trying to use everything to it’s fullest. So it’s wasteful to have a perfectly good health gauge and do nothing with it.
“That will be used for something… We’ll talk more about that after TGS and certainly at the CES in Vegas next January. Just because your character doesn’t come out and fight doesn’t mean that’s not good for something. What that something is… ask me again in six months.”
