Port Royale 3 announced for PC and console in 2012

Kalypso Media has announced Port Royale 3, which allows players to choose adventure in the high seas the Caribbean during the 17th century.

Players will take on the role of a young captain who can choose to either be a "heroic captain, villainous brigand or savvy merchant" in an era where the naval powers of England, France, the Netherlands, and Spain all want to be the supreme ruler of the colonies.

The campaign consists of two different paths for the captain to follow: adventurer and trader. Adventurers will embark on naval conquest and gain notoriety through "raids, piracy, bounty hunting, plundering and conquering cities,": while the trader will use economic means to become a trading hotshot in the New World by "setting up trade routes, building production facilities and developing cites."

In free-play mode, the player crafts a combination of the two paths, creating a unique and challenging scenario on the path to increase wealth and power.

In addition to single-player, multiplayer modes will be available where players can go head-to-head using "commercial, economic and conquest simulations to allow for fast-paced gameplay," in real-world locations.

The first playable version of Port Royale 3 will be available at the Kalypso Media stand at gamescom.

Currently in development with Gaming Minds, Port Royale 3 is slated for a Q2 2012 release on PC and consoles.
