AMD’s announced the Radeon HD 6990M, a chip it’s saying is the fastest laptop graphics processor in the world, up to 25 percent faster, in fact, than Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 580M unveiled only two weeks ago with the same claim. AMD reckons the new Radeon kicks the puny GeThing to the curb when benchmarked on Batman Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age 2, Shogun 2, BattleForge, Left 4 Dead, Metro2033, Wolfenstein MP, The Chronicles of Riddick, and E.T.: Quake Wars. If this sort of thing makes you do the sex-wee, hit Engadget for specs and a PR.

Innovation’s not dead. It’s just moved out of its ritzy bump-mapped mansion into a rustic forest cottage getaway. Or something. It’s smaller now, is what we’re saying – but no less important. In fact, according to SCE chief Shuhei Yoshida, the gaming industry absolutely needs smaller garage developers to simply stay alive – let alone thrive.

Capcom’s to launch a brand new update for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition on PC. As well as other fixes, the update will feature enhancements to NVIDIA’S 3D Vision and the removal of DRM from the non-Steam version of the fighter. There’s a whole list of details of what the update will fix and whatnot over at Capcom Unity.

The update itself goes live either tonight or tomorrow in the US.

Oh sure, you laugh when, say, Square Enix registers a domain for Final Fantasy XXVII, but who’s laughing now? Certainly not Activision.

BioWare’s teasing some sort of gameplay feature for Mass Effect 3 called “Secret Feature X.” Staffers Billy Buskell and Preston Watamaniuk made note on the feature during separate tweets. It’s not multiplayer, according to ME3News, though. Other than that, guess away.

SOE president John Smedley has said that the upcoming closure of Star Wars Galaxies is due to numerous factors, including the expiration next year of its contract with LucasArts on the MMO.

“There’s the Racing Studio team who have rolled onto another project now after doing DiRT. Obviously in Birmingham we’re doing the F1 title and we’re ramping up to do another title which hasn’t been announced yet and that’ll be mentioned at some point. I personally would love to do touring cars again at some point, because I used to love TOCA – it was amazing! I’d love to go back and pick that up for Codemasters and do it again, but I don’t know. I need you guys to bang on about it!” – F1 2011 boss Steve Hood on going back to TOCA Race Driver at Codies, speaking to Gamerzines.

Capcom is set to unveil a brand new game at ComicCon next week, according to details from a panel at the event. The World of Capcom panel will show the new title, as well as have more on Dragon’s Dogma. Capcom’s about to go big on CC: as well as this and “fantastic” news on Marvel vs Capcom 3, there’ll also be “surprises” in a Resident Evil-related event.

ComicCon takes place from July 22-25.

US retailer Best Buy (via CVG) has listed a collector’s edition of Batman: Arkham City. And that’s actually all she wrote, literally: there’s not much else mentioned on the CE, such as its contents. Just that it’s a CE and it’ll set you back $99.99. We’ll look into it with Warner now.

Namco Bandai’s opened up a brand new countdown website for something. What that something is, we don’t know, but the countdown is now at 210 hours, meaning it’ll come to a halt in nine days – next Thursday. According to NeoGAF‘s miladesn, Namco’s registered the trademarks Dark Escape and Northern Wings. Make two, combine two and it gives you five? We’ll find out next week.

Irrational boss Ken Levine has said there’s no current plans to make titles for Wii U in the near future at least, but didn’t rule out developing for the system entirely.

Warner Bros has released a trailer showing off Rain (“the purple ninja”), the latest downloadable Mortal Kombat character. Due on July 19, Rain is the penultimate release of announced DLC kombatants, with only a mysterious shadowy figure still to come.
