Garry's Mod moves over 1 million lifetime

Garry Newman has posted word that his Source Engine mod, otherwise known as Garry’s Mod, has surpassed 1 million in sales.

The lovely milestone happened sometime over the weekend.

Newman released the mod on Steam back in 2006 and sold 300,000 as of 2008. As of October 2010, the mod had moved 700,000 digital units.

"Even though my name is on the Mod there are a lot of people that have helped out over the years, and GMod wouldn’t be where it is now without them," said Newman. "Particularly Valve and Steam -- which made Garry’s Mod technically feasible -- namely Erik J, Alfred, Jason H and Mike D.

"There have been countless contributors to Garry’s Mod over the years, whether it be people directly editing the code, submitting bug reports and fixes, creating mods, movies, screenshots, comics. Far too many people for me to name."

Newman went on to say he had a "secret update" planned for when his creation hit the one million mark, but "it’s not ready – you guys beat me to it."

You can check out the full post through here, which also includes a chart tracking the mod's sales over the years.

Thanks, Gamasutra.
