Ted Woosley offers advice to aspiring XBLA developers

Xbox Live Arcade can be the perfect place for upcoming developers to showcase games to a large audience of gamers, but it isn't always rosy: the competition is very tough with so many developers wanting games approved for the service. In such a scenario, words of wisdom from XBLA's first-party director of publishing, Ted Woolsey, would seem like mana from the heavens.

That's exactly what happened during a recent interview with Gamasutra where Woosley offered some advice for aspiring Xbox Live Arcade developers.

The man said developers who are able to present something different from the crowd of other developers would stand a better chance of approval. He also stressed that getting the pitch right is crucial as well. He went to say that developers should "get all the great ideas you have out and make sure that they're understandable."

He also emphasized on the fact that coming up with new concepts is only half the battle won, as Microsoft "is looking at different business models" and is "aware of what's going on out in the greater games community." A few F2P titles making their way into Xbox Live wouldn't be surprising considering this new approach.

Woosley also shared some details about XBLA, stating there are typically around 50 XBLA games in development at the moment, and about 30 of them are being published in a year. With so much on offer, Microsoft is taking a genuine interest in promoting its products through promotional events like Summer of Arcade, enabling it to give products the maximum exposure possible, he explained.

Woosley also stated in the interview, that an upcoming Xbox 360 dashboard update will make browsing for games a less confusing affair.
