Gamestop predicts 2014 next-gen console launch

Gamestop executives have reportedly shared their thoughts on hardware, including next-gen consoles, the PS Vita, and Kinect.

MCV posted a statement from US research group Baird, passing on comments from senior Gamestop executives allegedly made during investor meetings.

“Management does not expect new hardware consoles from Microsoft and Sony until 2014; however, a successful launch of Nintendo’s Wii U in 2012 could add pressure to accelerate a hardware refresh.

“GameStop is also upbeat on the coming launch of Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld gaming device, which has a $249 price-point within the reach of many gamers.

“As for the motion controller launched a year ago, management indicated more software is needed to maintain sales momentum.”

Presumably the final comment refers to Kinect; Microsoft has said it will triple the add-on’s line-up.

That is way too late, but then again I could not care less.

Um I don’t think when they say motion controller they just mean kinect. They more then likely mean both move and kinect because both of them are lacking in content

Is it just me or does it seem like more and more the flow of ps4 and the next xbox rumors, predictions and so on are starting to pick up?

It must mean something because there is more and more talk of it. Odd how the next wii rumors just popped out of nowhere and what do you know, the announced the thing a couple of months later. I think all this is planned from the beginning. I expect them to be announced 2013. I may be wrong but this year at e3 was pretty lack luster. Nothing overly massive announced, it seems from microsoft the had a focus on kinect and even then there wasn’t much happening. 2012 will lap it up and 2013 will be the slow down. I can also bet money that halo 4 will be the last halo released on the 360, with the others releasing on the next xbox.
