Naughty Dog: Uncharted 3 beta data gone for good

Naughty Dog will not be able to restore data lost to a reset bug in in the Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception multiplayer beta, but is working to find the cause.

Reports began filtering in yesterday that players had been dropped back to level one and lost everything they'd earned so far.

"We are actively looking into what caused the issue so we can prevent it from happening in the future," Naughty Do g said in a post on the company blog.

Players who complete certain requirements while participating in the Uncharted 3 beta will unlock bonuses when the game launches, leaving many concerned that their efforts have been wasted.

"The GOOD news is that your progress towards those rewards has NOT been lost – we still have all of your detailed play history by game stored safely and ALL games you have played in the past and are playing right now WILL be counted towards your overall progress," Naughty Dog reassured players.

"The BAD news is that we won’t be able to update your profile back to your current level, cash and unlocks. Unfortunately, that means all affected players will not be able to check their progress towards the requirements for the Beta rewards."

Naught Dog apologised for the issue, but cheekily added "finding these kinds of issues early is (thankfully) what a Beta period is for."

"We know that losing your progress and not having an easy way to find out if you’ve hit the Beta requirements is extremely frustrating. We hope that knowing that your hard-earned progress to date has not actually been lost is some consolation," it said.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception will launch on PlayStation 3 in early November.
