Ex-2K pair found Uppercut Games, first title inbound
Two former 2K Marin staffers have founded a new studio, Uppercut Games, and announced its first release – the action combat title Epoch.

Co-founders Ed Orman and Andrew James list Fallout: Tactics, Freedom Force, Tribes: Vengeance, Bioshock, Bioshock 2 and XCOM among their credits on the studio’s website.
Uppercut’s manifesto is to bring triple-A quality to mobile and downloadable gaming, and it’s first project, the Unreal-powered Epoch, due on iDevice in late 2011. There’s a teaser below.
The pair have at least two further games in the works, with Plunder and Terminus both receiving funding in the NSW Government’s Digital Media Initiative scheme.
Thanks, Gamefront.

I feel I should be excited about this. It’s got somewhat charismatic robots in it, right?
But it’s still just Gears of War with robots.
I miss you, Japan. Can we have more of your games being translated again? I really do miss Japan and I can’t help but feel listless, they really knew variety.

Just once I’d love to read about a new startup actually doing real AAA game development, rather than throwaway iOS garbage.

I wonder just how many devs on big-budget projects are actually spending half their time knocking out secret iOS games?
