Dark Souls allows you to unleash pain and suffering on other players
From Software have added a way for players to torment others in Dark Souls, by apparently allowing the Pyromancer to summon a Gravelord to seek out other players and attack them until they’re defeated.

According to the video posted below, the Pyromancer isn’t able to manage which player the Gravelord will attack or even be aware of how things are progressing with their unleashed minion.
The reasoning behind this, said the developers, is because it is sometimes fun to torture strangers. The team got the idea for this from Demon’s Souls, where players could release a Black Phantom into another’s game, which would then try to kill the player.
Sounds like sadistic fun to us.
Check out Stace’s hands-on with Dark Souls here, if you haven’t already.
It’s out in early October for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Basically it is fun due to how most people think. You get to make life miserable for others.

Yeah thats not fun because you don’t see the results. Oh yay I get to send monsters to torture other players not seeing who it is attacking or seeing if the player died because of the monster I sent.

@4, probably you will get some results as a reward.

I don’t care about Text Popping up and say X player killed no I want to physically see the Gravelord killing a player.

I agree, this seems totally pointless.

@6, result is a soul or something. Of course no one cares about text pop up.

How would that work though, unless you are brought to the players gameworld to see, then you may as well just invade someone yourself
Or a window is brought up in the corner of the screen to show you what your Gravelord is up to? I guess this way could work but it could distract players from possible invaders in your own game world.
I do hope we will get some kind of reward if our Gravelord is successful though like some souls, or some stones/shards for upgrading your weapons

Again that is not rewarding Text pop up or light flashing or being rewarded with a soul is not rewarding at all. Its absolutely pointless.
If you can’t do something right don’t do anything at all. Its just a gimmick.

“the Pyromancer isn’t able to manage which player the Gravelord will attack or even be aware of how things are progressing with their unleashed minion” i just dont get it just knowing that you have screwed over someone just someone not knowing how much or where just seems really pointless before you know it everyone will start a new game as a pyromancer be cause the game they were playing got screwed and as soon as they can they will screw someone just for the sake of it. i was looking forward to this but i may not bother

Presumably your soul tendency blackens, and the poor bastard has an opportunity to come into your world for revenge or something?

I don’t really get it myself either. It seems like a pretty pointless mechanic to me instead of Black Phantoms just raiding other peoples games now they have to go through a medium (Pyromancer) which cannot see or know what is going on. Seems a bit pointless as it makes black phantoms go out of there way when trying to raid people to me. Also the Pyromancer does not benefit from this in anyway. If they really wanted to torment another player they could just raid other players games themselves and actually kill them and see what happens while getting rewarded if they win by being able to stregthen there bonfires.

Ability fail.
How about you give someone a mild form of cancer but you don’t know who or how or when?

Guys there’s other websites reporting that the journalist doing this interview missed a very important detail. Where ever you sent the phantom, it leaves a trail that the invaded person can follow back and invade you in a revenge style play. That makes a lot more sense now doesn’t it? I don’t have the links right now but the demon souls wiki forums have the source links.

Now THAT sounds fucking awesome. Especially if you deliberately did it to lure him into your world.

Can the person actually invade your game himself or just send his own Gravelord though?

The person will be able to invade your game back. Here is the link, sorry I was on my iPhone yesterday had no idea where I read it.
http://forums.demonssouls.info/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=8605 sorry don’t know much html to link it. I Just realized he doesn’t have any evidence supporting his claim. He goes on to say how the journalist responsible for the E3 video and/or Bandai Rep he spoke to din’t get the right information. Somewhere along the lines, somebody fucked up/got lazy lol. But yeah I hope FROM really clarifies this.
I mean the games out real soon in Japan, the details should be solidified as of this point.

@Stephany: could you please be so kind and clear that up with From Software/Namco what the real deal is? Things are getting confusing. If its like in the video, I just don’t get what the fun should be about, if you neither gain something by invoking the Gravelord randomly nor does the other player knows whats going on and why, especially players new to the game?! o_O

Reminds me of how much I want a proper PVP towerdefense game a la Corpsecraft. Half building, half griefing.
