Japanese charts - Tales of the Abyss brings 3DS back to the top

The Japanese hardware and software charts for the week ending July 3 finds 3DS back on top after being pushed out last week by PSP, and it's all thanks to Namco's Tales of the Abyss.

Luke, Natalia, Guy and co. win

Tales of the Abyss, which had a solid debut, moved 74,173 units during its first three days at market, beating out other chart newcomers Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, ToHeart2 Dungeon Travelers, Goldeneye 007, Mashiroiro Symphony, and TDU2, respectively.

Still, second place SSFIV:AE didn't do too shabby, as it moved 54,924 units during the same period.

All in all, there were 11 new releases in the top 20 for the week, which look quite a bit better than last week's report.

3DS steals top spot back from PSP

3DS was back on top of the Media Create charts after last week's vacation, with 30,233 units moved. However, it was a narrow victory as combined PSP hardware moved 29,871 units - a difference of only 362 units.

Other Nintendo hardware fared rather well too, with Wii moving 12, 423 units compared to last week's 9,511 which can likely be attributed to GoldenEye 007 finally seeing a release in Japan.

Sales of older DS models were up as well, but not enough to raise the red line too much. Figuratively, the increase was so low, the line would be flat if you were to create a graph.

Xbox 360 moved 92 units more than the week prior, PS2 sales were down by a little over 100 units, and PSPgo managed to sell 7 units for the week.

PS3 sales were up 9,448 units compared to the prior reporting period, thanks to three software debuts in the top 20.
