PS Plus turns one, celebrates with update, prizes, statistics

Wednesday, 6th July 2011 15:28 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Sony has updated the PS Plus content for July, and not only are there some nice offerings on deck, the service is also celebrating its first anniversary. Hard to believe it has already been a year, ya know.

Celebrate good times, come on

According to Sony, when it launched the service last year, it promised to deliver over £200 of content during the year, and instead it handed out £700 worth of content, minus discounts and exchange rates.

To mark the occasion of turning one, Sony is offering a PS Plus deal, where if you sign up for a 12 month subscription, you can choose to get an extra three months for free, or get SEGA Rally Online Arcade for free and to keep forever.

This offer is for both current and new subscribers. You can also sign up for both offers, and you can get the details on that bit through the EU PS Blog.

According to Sony: “If you are a Welcome Back Free Plus user then you will need to wait until your free membership finishes before you purchase a Plus membership. If you renew to a paying membership, you’ll also keep the content you got during your free trial.”

Sony is also having a prize draw that all Plus members are automatically entered into, with a chance to win a Sony Entertainment package, including 46″ 3D Bravia TV, extra 3D glasses, a PS3 320GB, a PSPgo, PlayStation Move starter pack with extra controller and navigation controllers, a selection of 10 PS3 games, PlayTV and a 5 year PlayStation Plus membership – worth around £4,000 – as a first prize.

Second and third place prizes aren’t too shabby either, so, again, head on through the link to the full rundown.

Now that we’ve gotten all of that out of the way, below you will find your PS Plus update for the month of July.

European PS Plus Update

Here is the content list from July 6 – August 3, with more additions promised during the month.

  • PSN: Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars; Golden Axe
  • PS One: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
  • minis: Dr. Maybe and the Adventures of Scarygirl; JellyCar 2
  • Exclusive Discounts: 50 percent off – Shank, Dead Space Ignition, DeathSpank, DeathSpank: Thongs Of Virtue, The Fancy Pants Adventures, more
  • Full Game Trial: Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (G.R.A.W.)
  • Dynamic themes: PlayStation Plus Anniversary dynamic theme; Symbol Flow dynamic theme

The US end of PS Plus has yet to be updated, as far as we can see, so when it occurs, we will update this post accordingly.

There’s no mention of the Plus subs in my PS Store. moreover I couldn’t even renew it while still subscribed to the service in the past days.

Too bad because the 15 months subscription is supposed to end tomorrow and my free month ends on friday…

*** Competition not open to Welcome Back PlayStation Plus members that have not purchased a subscription, or to PlayStation Plus members with accounts registered in Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Italy, Norway, Poland or Sweden.
