Sony extends Welcome Back package for PS3, PSP in US

Sony's Welcome Back package, which rewarded PlayStation Network faithfuls with free PS Plus subscription months, games, and other bonuses, has been extended through Tuesday for US users.

Sony has announced via Twitter PSN users will be able to get their hands on the Welcome Back program's goodies until 9:00am PST - 5:00pm Thursday, British time.

SCEE has told VG247 that its Welcome Back pack has now finished.

Joystiq reports Sony had removed the Welcome Back program from the PlayStation Store on Sunday afternoon, but met with criticism from those who had believed the July 3 deadline meant midnight on that day.

Apparently, enough users were waiting until Sunday afternoon to check in on their bonuses that Sony felt the need to extend the deadline.

"There were 30 days to claim it, not sure why people decided to wait. We were clear from the outset," Sony's senior social media manager Jeff Rubenstien said on Twitter when ire began to wash up on his shores.

Sony nominated a July 3 cut off when the Welcome Back package was first announced, and reiterated the message last week. The special offer was introduced in compensation for the downtime following a mid-April hack on the PSN.
