Monday Shorts, overnight edition – Metroid design notes, PSOne imports, Katamari video

On holiday weekends, those with post quotas to meet spend a lot of time weeping quietly over their empty inboxes, RSS feeds and IM contact lists. To save you time, I’ve rounded up the barrel-scrapings which result.

Alright, that’s not totally fair. Some of these are gold. Try to guess which ones!

• Here’s a Kinect hack which lets you play a kind of real-world version of Canabalt.
• LAPD veteran Skip Bauchman clobbers the dreams of would-be detectives by taking LA Noire’s investigation process to task.
• There’s a Kickstarter project to fund a museum for the history of video games.
• The Japanese notes in Metroid: Other M’s in-game concept gallery have been translated. Interestin’ stuff.
• Ever wondered what games development looks like? See 48 hours thereof, compressed into a one minute video.
• MonkeyPaw has two new PSOne Classics on the way, as part of its campaign to resurrect Japan-only treasures.
• Aksys is bringing Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom to the West. It’s an otome, which means heavy romance novel elements, and a female protagonist. Apparently.
• Artist Aram Bartholl is planning to make a full-scale, real-world model of a Counter-Strike map.
• These incredibly blurry images are reportedly the first look at Rayman Origins on the 3DS.
• Here’s a video demonstrating why you don’t mess with Katamari’s Prince. It’s the latest from the guy who did the awesome farting unicorn video.
