Rift now just $5 for limited time

The only major competitor to challenge World of Warcraft to come along in years is now holding a sale on its client download cost.

You'll be able to get the full game of Rift: Planes of Telara for just five dollars in some versions although that doesn't include the subscription.

The trial upgrade version is just $4.99 up front, while the standard edition is $19.99 and comes with a month of free service.

This comes just one day after Blizzard announced that it would be making World of Warcraft to free to play until level 20.

Whether or not anybody will actually notice this has happened now that 80% of Steam is on sale, and WoW/Team Fortress 2 are free-to-play remains unknown.
