Rift now just $5 for limited time

The only major competitor to challenge World of Warcraft to come along in years is now holding a sale on its client download cost.

You’ll be able to get the full game of Rift: Planes of Telara for just five dollars in some versions although that doesn’t include the subscription.

The trial upgrade version is just $4.99 up front, while the standard edition is $19.99 and comes with a month of free service.

This comes just one day after Blizzard announced that it would be making World of Warcraft to free to play until level 20.

Whether or not anybody will actually notice this has happened now that 80% of Steam is on sale, and WoW/Team Fortress 2 are free-to-play remains unknown.

The sub is $15/mo right? So why not just buy the game for $20? Unless you want to buy larger chunks of time for a discounted rate, I guess, if they have that.

Although this is a carbon copy of WoW, I am pretty much enjoying it. Did the trial and purchased a 3 months sub plan as I wait for SWTWoW. The game is pretty busy on the servers and Trion appear to be listening to the player base pretty much with regular updates

    Apparently $5 translates to £8.49

That’s some pretty interesting currency conversion there, TRION. I wouldn’t t buy purely out of principle cos this is the usual slap in the face to non-USA gamers.
