Report – EB Games Australia to pull Resi Evil: Mercenaries over save-game debacle

Vooks is reporting this afternoon that the Australian arm of retailer EB Games is to pull Resident Evil: The Mercenaries from its shelves before even releasing the game in the country.

The game is actually meant to be out today down under.

It comes after it was discovered that save files from the game were undeleteable, pretty much making the game useless for the second hand trade.

Capcom had nothing to say on the matter.

The company had said overnight in a statement that the used games market was “not a factor” in introducing the feature.

Game’s out in the UK for 3DS on Friday.

Thanks, VOOK64.

So either they’re incompetent or they’re vicious. Great job, Capcom!

GOOD!

why should they pull this kind of move on purpose?
if its a bug then ok it isn’t Capcom’s fault. But it isn’t so EB are doing the right thing

I was really looking forward to this. a cert for launch day, but now I’ll just wait until it’s of a comparable price to second hand games. Chances are that won’t be too far away.

Of course they are, because it would be so hugely entertaining/embarassing to watch one of their suits attempt to defend this sort of contridictory stupid twattery in an actual interview.

I still suspect this is probably a mistake or a glitch that went unnoticed until after all the carts had been produced and they decided to paper over it rather than go to the expense of fixing it.

“The company had said overnight in a statement that the used games market was “not a factor” in introducing the feature.”

Doesn’t sound like a glitch or a mistake to me.

@8 “The company had said overnight in a statement that the used games market was “not a factor” in introducing the feature.” doesnt seem like the new games market will be as much of a factor either now

@7, they’re hardly likely to say “ah, actually we fucked up and tried to just pretend it didn’t happen’ either though, are they? :-D

No, but to come out and actually say it’s a feature…either way to me it doesn’t sound like a glitch. I think this is what they want in order to prevent used sales. I’m glad retailers are taking a stand.

Article says: “The game is actually meant to be out today down under.”
Source says: “ironically the game isn’t meant to be out yet”
