New Saints Row: The Third gameplay footage features tanks, jets, giant purple dildo
9lives has gone live with a seven minute Saints Row: The Third gameplay trailer which gives you a sneak peak of the various things you would be able to do in its sandbox world.

The trailer shows the player driving tanks, flying jets which come custom-equipped with homing missiles and microwave lasers, beating people up with his bare hands and a giant purple dildo among other things. Amazing.
Saints Row: The Third releases on November 18 in Europe for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Watch the trailer below.

saints row 1 was pretty good, though it was their first attempt.
2nd was awesome, loved the fact your character would sing to the radio. Came out perfect timing as well as GTA4 had gone a whole new direction and took most the fun out the game.
Cant wait for this, still waiting to hear more about the co-op, really want at least 3 player co-op.

It’s cool and no doubt fun but it comes around a time Skyrim comes out too, and that’s not even the only game. Nah…for me simply not worth picking up. Probably later, cause this one will be fun as hell in co-op no doubt.

I’m glad they have chosen to go this completely ridiculous way. But i really prefer GTA IV over this. I only have fun with those “fun” games for like 20 Min.

Agreed. SR2 was so awesome, so crazy and so much needed when all games suddenly wanted to be really serious.
The new game looks like the true follow up to that gem. Hopefully they’ve kept multiple voice / accent choices for the main character.

Looks great! I just hope it’s the video that makes the framerate look a bit low in some places.

Saints row 1-2 is trash, but this one looks Solid. They completely revamped the engine and physics.
Even on PC with everything on max, game looked like from PS2 era with PS2 era gameplay. It was not even close to GTA 3 or Vice City.
Also, how console players are going to enjoy this with less then 30 fps with magical trees that appear and disappear in front of the player? Uughh…

@17, thats why when comes bad port or a crappy optimized game everyone whines as always.
Saints row 3 with current gen physics and visuals showed that it’s hard in 2011 to make a Sandbox game on 360 or PS3 that can have solid 30 FPS.
For some games for me, i can’t enjoy them with less then 40 fps because i like when the game is smooth. 30 fps is a minimum, but it’s a bit shaky.

This is a day one purchase for me, loved the rest of the series and I’m interested in how you “start at the top” in this one.
Hopefully coop play will have more than 2 players but either way it should be crazy fun

I think GTA sucks a hairy asshole these days. They try to sell themselves on setting and story, but none of it is any good. If it was a movie, I would leave after 5 minutes. I haven’t tried Gay Tony yet, but The Lost and the Damned is just as far off the mark as GTA IV was.
It’s fair enough wanting to tell a story, but you have to make it a good one if that’s all you got.
Just Cause 2 and Saints Row 2 picked up on what the old games were about.

So essentially Erthazus, you didn’t enjoy any games prior to around 1993 and Doom’s 35fps? You really are a fucking idiot. If all you care about are graphics, go and watch a bloody CGI film as you clearly care nothing for gameplay, story arcs, character progression, innovative experiences or any of the things that actually makes them fun.
Honestly, the elitist attitude of PC gamers gets right on my wick. Well done, you managed to save up the money for something that’s become the focal point of your entire life. You’re the suckers paying over the odds for a machine that will consistently empty your wallet over a number of years while you struggle to ensure it remains state of the art, and can handle amazing graphics that are ‘obviously’ the most important aspect of video games.
Meanwhile, we console gamers will pay a few hundred quid for something that will give us joy for years on end, great online experiences, no virus attacks, high quality games that will never see the light of day on the PC and spare us the elitist attitude of PC twats.
Who’s better off?

I am a hardcore GTA fan, and when they finally announce V i will go absolutely nuts, yes only a announcement will make me go ‘HELL YES’ lol. But i do agree that they took out some of the fun stuff in GTA IV, the stuff that made SA awesome. It was already alot better in TBOGT but still not enough.
If they put the physics, gun-combat of RDR in GTA V, make the graphics alot better, MORE variety in missions, more vehicles (bicycles,jetplanes(747s), etc. And also…make a GOOD hand to hand combat system, i can enjoy hand to hand combat alot in games but in GTA IV its just slow and boring to be honest.
But personally i just can’t wait to see how much more ‘alive’ they are gonna make the game world again cause say what you wanna say, but Rockstar’s gameworlds shit on any other gameworlds in terms of the littlest details and atmosphere.

Saints row was fine, just missed like other vehicles. 2nd one, they listened to what people wanted, made it fun. Love the checkpoint system cuz I hate GTA4, u drive for ages to get to a location or get a taxi, start the mission and you gotta drive across the map, then if you fail u gotta do that all over again, esp when the driving bit has nothing going on. It bored me to death.
I think the graphics in saints row are fine, its a fun game, not a serious one so i like the way it is already, who cares if trees disappear etc, the game works, good enough 4 me.

That’s not really true, checkpoints were MUCH better in IV, and even better for the two DLCs. I don’t remember having to drive to a mission all over again.Correct me if i’m wrong but you could either take a cab, and just let the driver take you there while you take in everything you see or just skip it completely. It wasn’t that bad in IV imo.
And the driving was actually awesome in GTA IV, finally done right. I loved how you could feel ‘weight’ in these cars and all those details they put in.

The wheels locking up once you hit a certain speed was pretty lame, but it’s definitely true that the way they built the game was outstanding. It was fun to drive, and I’m always a bit disgusted when I shoot people because they respond so realistically to it.
It just sucks that they can’t get proper writers for their games. I really couldn’t be less interested in the cliché life story of Niko Bellic, or the adolescent bitchfighting of The Damned.
@22 So all PC gamers just care about graphics? Sure, we’re willing to dish out for hardware, but some of us actually like to play games. I have put an awful lot of money into my rig, but ultimately I want to play games as much as any console gamer.
Graphics nerds exist on consoles too (just look at the PS3 versus 360 arguments) but they don’t say anything for the rest of us.

#26 I won’t tar all you guys with the same brush, but in general there’s such a snooty attitude due to the fact that they’ve spent shedloads on a top rig, and the only way to differentiate themselves from people who are esentially playing the same games on significantly cheaper hardware is to bang on about framerates and graphics.
I know there’s always the idiots that compare consoles, and the console war has always existed back to the SNES and Megadrive, and prior to that with Amiga and AtariST, and even before that with the ZX Spectrum and the Commodore64, but honestly all this focus on graphics and who’s hardware is better serves no-one but the platform holders themselves. Better graphics doesn’t constitute a leap forward for games; it’s just building on existing technologies.
I want my games to innovate, excite and enthrall me. I don’t need 60fps and 1080p to do that, and neither do the majority of the game playing public.
Just ask PopCap; valued at $1 billion, and not a spot of DirectX 11 in sight.

@25 I’ve not played the DLC yet. I know you can use the taxi but for the missions you cant. I’d get a taxi to get the mission but then id have 2 drive the other characters car with them chatting for ages, it was all the way across town, then the next part of the mission would begin once i got there. Alot of shooting, then driving again, escaping the cops, to get really far and then fail cuz the car flipped, or stupid idiots decided to get out the vehicle and die whilst I was driving. Then to find myself having to redo the whole thing again, get a taxi, and then drive them to a location. Failed this 5 or 6 times, the driving part took most of the time up i was playing a checkpoint would have been so much nicer.

@The Massive Slag, how about you just go and twit to Patrick Garrat about your behavior on the site?
Or should i do it for you?
If you don’t like good performance it is your only problem and you don’t need to be a **** to call me an idiot or say that PC elitists don’t enjoy games.
The difference between you and me that i am hardcore gamer and i enjoy gaming with the best performance as possible. Innovation is not my preference. I need great gameplay on par with visuals and story.
Apologize, or i will just tell to Pat about your behavior.
PS:
“you didn’t enjoy any games prior to around 1993 and Doom’s 35fps”
I played Doom with the latest rig i could get at that time, so your argument here is invalid.

I haven’t watched the video yet since I’m using my blackberry but they are almost taking it too far…Saints Row was awesome, Saints Row 2 was pretty sick too but some of the humor was just stupid and def trying a bit too hard…with The Third they are just going over the top with everything and almost injecting too much ridiculous and senseless humor into the game…I’m sure it will be fun and all but I’m not paying 60 bucks for a game that tries way too hard to be outrageous or funny…THQ as a whole just keeps going down hill, the only thing I’m really looking forward to from them is Metro: Last Light…

And I don’t care what anyone says about GTA IV…it was a better game…that bank robbery scene that seemed like it was straight out of the movie Heat was f*cking EPIC…GTA injects some humor while not taking it too far, almost natural humor….SR takes it and runs with it, and with The Third it looks like maybe they should slow down and stop making the game so utterly ridiculous its impossible to even fathom how the game can have a somewhat serious storyline whatsoever…and from the vids I’ve seen the graphics do not look good at all, probably not even as good as SR2, and too cartoonish…but I guess that vibes with Volition and their new mantra of “our newer games look worse or no different then their predecessors”…like RF:A compared to RF:G

@37 Maybe I should fire it up. I was hoping for something a bit more interesting with The Lost of the Damned, but really it’s just a bunch of bikers acting like 16 year old girls, while borrowing a bit from Sons of Anarchy.
@35 You’re missing the point. What Saints Row are doing today, GTA was doing a decade ago.
Fair enough if you prefer one over the other, but to me the kind of craziness that you get in games like Saints Row is a lot truer to GTAs origins than GTA is today.
GTA today is all about imposing artistic limits on the player, games like Saints Row are all about setting the player free.
I don’t know what video you’ve been watching, but that up there looks easily on par with GTA IV.
@3 Really, gaming today has far too few Top Gun references, and there’s absolutely no excuse for it.
Blizzard put a few into WoW back around the Burning Crusade.

Talk to me goose.
I still play GTA but i definately prefer over the top to being serious. Stupid friends and gfs in GTA4 calling you every 5 minutes to go do something and if you dont, you loose their respect, dont need that in a game.
I wanna see more on the co-op, the RC gun etc. Hoping they got the singing again and would love my own mp3 radio station.

Yeah that mission was awesome, i absolutely loved it. If i disliked one thing about IV though it was that there just wasn’t enough variety in the missions.
As for Saints Row 2, i didn’t forget their stupid and unnessecary diss to GTA IV in one of their SR2 trailers. Making fun of GTA IV how you couldn’t do this and that, but how it was possible in SR2. They even got a part wrong, where they said you can throw people in front of trains. I guess they never tried pushing a NPC and have it by a train then? sigh…

@44 Writing off a game based on a commercial is absolutely not the right way to go.
And dissing one of the most succesful games in history is hardly a sinister move, by any standards. Bad Company 2 did it with CoD, and that turned out to be flat wrong too. It’s just how it goes. If you want people to know who you are, lash out at the big dog.
If you really want to compare content, check out the “Mysterious Island” mission from Just Cause 2 (I really don’t want to spoil it). That’s easily one of the most awesome parts of any game I’ve ever played through.

@DSB that’s not really a compliment saying Saints Row: The Third’s graphics are on par with GTA IV’s…since by the time SR: The Third comes out, GTA IV will be 3 1/2 years old…
@44 Yeah, agreed…at least in RDR you could hogtie people and wait for the train to come hit them LOL…that was some gruesome sh*t right there…
But yeah, I finally watched that gameplay vid…it was alright, graphics still don’t look that great to me, esp character models….but it looks decent, first two minutes were mad stupid though…

@47 I wasn’t saying it wasn’t far better, I said it easily met the grade. I can’t tell people what to see when looking at a video like that, but a small glance at the work on the buildings and the skyline behind them should really dispel any notion that this will be a dated or somehow unappealing game, graphically.
Besides, meeting the same standard as GTA IV wouldn’t be bad for any game, it was far ahead of its time.
I don’t get why graphics are discussed to the extent it is, though. With games like Duke Nukem Forever or Prototype I can see a point, but what’s shown in the video can’t possibly be a hindrance to anyone.
