Kinect NUads system shown in video
Microsoft’s released a video of its Kinect NUads system in action. NUads is a gesture- and voice-based ad system for Kinect that allows you to interact with advertising by tweeting, getting more information on the products you’re looking at, and so on.
There’s no date on when this is going to go live, but “pretty soon” is a safe bet. Check it out below.

“Hey, maybe if we make these ads really interesting, people will forget they’re ads!”

Interact with advertising….so genius, since with gold accounts you cant make enough money, eh? Well how about: interacting with proper games, you fools!

I wonder how many people will end up switching back to the xbox dash to find they’ve accidentally tweeted, or worse, bought some crap or other from these ads. I’ve switched away briefly from the xbox kinect dash to watch the news, switched back to find myself on the buy button of the xbox live gold family pack, several times.
I don’t leave the damn thing plugged in anymore.

How shitty is that!!! And how the frak does it improve the gamer’s experience?!? Also, how will that work? I mean are we going to have to sit through a bunch of commercials each time we wanna play a game? oO

Great for advertisers not for gamers though.

I wonder if this will lead to the same features being incorporated into tv, film & music vids? Being able to pause a scene & get details on the clothes, jewellery etc would be a cool feature for mor people than you’d think.

Some of you guys are such douchebags. Always gotta post the negative comment and they probably don’t even own a Kinect nor even an Xbox.
They way I see it if you don’t like it don’t use it its optional for fuck sake.

Yes, of course. Because adverts on a paid for gaming service are a positive, life-affirming experience. I’m sure all those early kinect adopters out there, including myself, will be absolutely fucking overjoyed when it launches.
You’ll find, eventually, that it’s also optional to like or dislike something. Doesn’t make anyone a douchebag for doing so.

We’ve always had ads on the dashboard, on tv, on the radio and massively on ps home. So what the fucks changed? Now we can just directly interact with them.
Anyway its not like any of its particularly special. The only new thing is now you can say stuff while actually watching an ad and get more information about it. Try ‘accidentally’ saying “xbox more” then hovering your hand over the email button for 3 seconds. Not to mention the fact you have to be actually watching the thing in the first place.

You know what will be next right? Achievements for interacting with them.

Those things you listed tend to be free to the public, so they need ad venue. On 360, Gold members who pay for the service still get ads.

Thats true but that’s not really about the addition of NUads.
Anyway if you become a PSN+ you still get all the ads in home. Wait that’s probably just because home is just one massive interactive ad. Funny how no one complained about that one.

PSN+ has nothing to do with Home though, nor are you forced to even interact with Home at any point.
And people rage about Home every time an article is posted about it.
Your red herring failed.

Love the overwhelmingly negative reaction to this all over the net. This whole interactive ads thing is beyond stupid and the new move only makes Kinect much less appealing than it already is.
