Rumor – Mass Effect 3 to feature four-player co-op

Thursday, 16th June 2011 15:07 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

A report over on Eurogamer states that Mass Effect 3 will feature four-player, and this online-enabled mode is “standalone” and features “competitive elements”.

The site understands that the mode will not compromise the single-player mode of the game, as the multiplayer is more akin to a Horde-style mode.

A separate source told Eurogamer BioWare Montreal was creating “a multiplayer Mass Effect experience,” either as a “standalone game or component of Mass Effect 3.”

When asked if the game had four-player co-op at E3, BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka said: “We haven’t talked at all about multiplayer in the Mass Effect franchise, but we’re exploring multiplayer in all of our games and all of our franchises.”

“It’s always an idea we’re interested in,” he said. “The short answer is we have no comment on that. But we’re interested in the idea of multiplayer.”

Mass Effect 3 is out in March next year, and the boxart has been released for it.

Check it out below. It looks the same for PC and PS3 as well, other than the logos, obviously.

Four player? Isn’t everything in Mass Effect tailored for a three-man team?

Fake, Blerk is right. 3 Characters in Battle.

IMO 3 player coop would work in campaign but funny to add horde mode and Dead Space as survival type game didn’t have that :D

Stop trying to turn it into a bog standard shooter!!! What is it with Bioware dumbing down all their IP? Surely appealing to the lowest common denominator is just going to damage the franchise in the long term. The best things about ME are it’s story arc, character relationships and rich universe and lore. This seems to playing second fiddle to relentless action.

I blame moronic CoD playing eight year olds for the shift in the console demographic. We want alien sex because it adds to the story, not because it’ll make tweens giggle.

i would love to hear just even a fraction of the discussions that go on between ea and bioware regarding this series.

Yeah idk any co-op component in ME3 sounds cool to me…although I would much rather see it in a campaign format in a future Mass Effect that is not based around Sheppard or in something like Dragon Age III if they forget DA2 ever existed and go back to the roots…a Horde mode in ME3 would be cool as long as they do it right…but it definitely doesn’t need it to be successful, kind of like Dead Space 2 didn’t need multiplayer, althought Mass Effect is at least 3x longer than the Dead Space 2 campaign

You guys better not screw this game the way you did with DA 2.

Oh, and Steph; rumour has two U’s in it. Last time I checked VG was a UK site? These bloody colonials have already ruined the world and bastardised the Queen’s English, let’s have some standards what what?

@9 Slag – Standard practice is you type like it is written in your country. Ergo, no unnecessary “e”, “u” or extra “r” when it is not needed for me! :P

Also, the site is “technically” worldwide since we have UK, Europe, Australia and the US covered. Apples, oranges, walnuts. Same thing. We’re all related anyhow. :D
