Kitase: Square being “very careful” in delivering western FF Type-0
Final Fantasy boss Yoshinori Kitase has casted a bit of an unknown in regards to the release of Final Fantasy Type-0 in the west, saying Square are being “very careful” in how it brings the game outside Japan..

Speaking to Gaming Union, he said “the situation” with PSP was “very different” here in the west than it was back in Japan, adding it would have to be “careful” in how it delivered the game.
“As you may know very well, with the PSP market, the situation is very different in Japan than outside of Japan,” Kitase told the site at E3.
“We are having to be very very careful in how we decide what would be the best way to deliver the game to all the gamers.”
He added: “At the moment I can’t give you any confirmed decision, so please be patient for a little bit longer.”
Type-0, nee Agito XIII, is due to release this summer for PSP in Japan, but hasn’t been formally announced for the west. Hands-on for the game in the country will begin from next month.

Very careful about how they would bring the game to the west? What the hell does that even mean?

I guess they’re considering bringing it to PSN? Or even to Vita?

@1:
tl;dr: They’re not sure the game is any good.
It’s pretty obvious given Square’s recent comments on the state of the Japanese gaming industry and it’s relationship with the West. Put simply, Western gamers tend not to like Japanese games that much these days. There are exceptions, obviously, but the days where you could do a quick localization to the West are over. Square is now acutely aware that what sells in Japan won’t nescessarily sell in the West anymore. They’re also aware that the Final Fantasy is officially on thin ice in the West. They’ve milked the franchise too hard for too long and they know it.
Square has to carefully consider whether localizing the game will even make money. Then they have to consider how it will affect the franchise as a whole. If the game is bad, then it will negatively impact the perceptions of a profitable, long running franchise that is rapidly losing its luster in the West. That’s bad for business.
