Assassin's Creed for Wii U announced in LA, new console “easy to develop for”

Ubisoft cements its commitment to Nintendo's new console with an Assassin's Creed game, and positive commentary on the console's power and architecture.

Ubisoft's Marc Parenteau gave some very brief details of Assassin's Creed for WiiU, talking up the console as a natural home for games developed for multiplatform.

“The multi-core architecture of the console is a natural fit for our in-house engine,” he said, citing the game's “huge memory” as something that makes it easy to develop for.

Talking about Assassin's Creed specifically, Parenteau noted that “all the graphical shaders used in development are fully functional”, enabling Ubisoft to “use assets across platforms with top-notch graphics.” He's not the first developer that we've heard say that the WiiU is extremely easy to port to.

As for the game itself, details were scarce. A persistent on-screen map, an interactive database, weapon selection, puzzles, and Eagle Vision were cited as potential uses for the Wii U controller, but nothing was shown.

Parenteau was also annoyingly unspecific when questioned as to whether it was a unique new game, or a port of an existing game, stating only that it will be “the best Assassin's Creed experience we can deliver”, which obviously means nothing. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
