Hirai on Vita: “If we were able to hit that 70 million mark for PlayStation Portable, we want to exceed that both in terms of numbers and timing to get to that number,” Sony’s Kaz Hirai told Reuters, adding that the firm expects Vita to be profitable in less than three years.

Oh my god… They are losing money on that thing?

I guess they are really losing money on it. I don’t remember a single device that use ARM-A9 Cortex (QUAD freakin core) with OLED screen.

Even Apple sells ARM Cortex (just dual core) for 600$. I mean iPad.

To make a Next Gen system these days you need too much money to spend. I’m not sure that investors are happy.

Bah, 2 conflicting uses of the word ‘profitable’ …. vita may make Sony money for each unit sold, but you have to consider the R&D costs, marketing, etc for which Sony has been spending money on for the last few years. 3 years for the PS Vita to be profitable as a whole isn’t that bad of a target.

@2 People will pay that much for an Apple product, so they’re making a lot more per unit out the gate
