Pre-Order listing suggests Wii U to cost £399.85, pins it down for July 20 release next year
UK retailer Zavvi has put up a pre-order listing for Wii U and priced it at £399.85 ($654), while marking it down for a July 20 release next year.

The retailer has put up a proper product page for Nintendo’s new console but it’s unlikely that it’ll cost this much, as the price mentioned is ridiculously steep.
Nintendo’s Wii cost £179.99 ($294) when it launched, while the Xbox 360 cost £279.99 ($458) at launch. It was only the PS3 which had a even higher launch price, costing £429.99 ($703) .
Nintendo announced the Wii U during their press conference last light, but didn’t have anything to say regarding either its price or release date.

£399.85 ?
I will cut off my balls then buying 6-7 year old hardware with shitty iPad that don’t even have OLED or multitouch screen.
I will cut off my balls better seriously.
+ NO GAMEZ.
That price is a joke and no way Nintendo will ever price that thing with 399.85

If they price themselves out of the easy birthday/xmas buys, then they’re in serious trouble. That price is obviously bogus (I don’t get why it’s considered news) but even the notion that they’re trying to move up is worrying.
I imagine quite a lot of people will find themselves buying Wiis by mistake. At the very least the people who aren’t in the know will need a teller to tell them the difference between a Wii and a Wii U.

Well if you look at what you get with this new console i think the cost will be on those lines, i expect 300 $, and that will be good IMHO, the IPAD cost much than that and the picture quality of the controller alone it seems higher than the ipad with touch screen capabilities, of course this without adding the console too that maybe, it is a possibility, runs better graphics than the ps3/360 so for the tech that is current, if you take in consideration that all the third party game announce were took from the ps3/360 version therefore we didnt see the true potential, of this console yet, adding to this it will be an open multiplayer which will freedom to third partys for the multiplayer aspect, i think the cost seems right compare with other devices.

I cannot see it being more than £300 & I can see even that being too steep for A LOT of casual gamers, which i’m guessing is Ninty’s main demographic now…
I can’t wait for the actual launch, cuz i’ll bet Erthazus’s balls MS announce a BIG price drop on 360/kinnect bundles too steal the WiiU’s thunder

@4, you are joking right?
Controller – Single-touch screen. It’s not even multi-touch which every tablet have these days or smartphones or VITA.
Screen resolution is low.
Screen is not AMOLED or OLED. The quality of the screen is worse then in iPad 1.
It’s basically a kitchen sink with the Wi-Fi channel built in. Another gimmick.
Console: 5 year old hardware. with slightly better processor and GPU.
300$? ARE YOU NUTS? Or you are a fanboy?

If the WiiU is that price, can you imagine what the PS4 and XboxNext will be priced at?
Scary.

Considering you get that “Tablet” controller with it i’m not entirely suprised at this price. I’m thinking it will probably be around £300 If Nintendo manage to get the manufacturing costs down before release.

#6 What i did try to say based on the info link, and based on the fact that other devices like the IPAD sold at higher prices even the IPAD 1 like you put it, when it lunch did cost almost twice as this, and this will be a home console that has a controller that has some of the same characteristics (the graphics of the tablet control are as good as the ones on HD TVS right now and it is touch screen), it seems the right price based on those issues, thats all iam saying, if it is that iam nuts to you, well then talk to apple not me, as for the old hardware now do you have the specs in your hands to call it an old hardware?

Right, but you’re looking at a different audience.
The people who buy a Wii U ultimately aren’t impressed with gagdets and tech, they want a fun, affordable console based on far less analysis than we’re all suggesting.
Grandparents don’t need to save their pensions to buy a Wii, parents don’t need to save for one. It’s a question of accessibility.
Nobody’s going to compare it to an iPad. They’re gonna look at the pricetag, and consider their paychecks.
The fact that the controllers are expensive didn’t stop the Wii. Once you sell the console, you’ll sell the stuff that goes with it.

I think that the UK is one of only a few developed countries in the world, where they’re ripped off just as much as us Aussies.

#10 i do agree with you, but i think if the user said well all my wii controlers will work with this new console, therefore i will only buy the console alone and i keep all my controller to keep playing, and all the games i do have for wii work with this too, i think the price tag will be more bearable IMHO, but like you said some people maybe will feel intimidated by this price tag for sure, but we need to wait for the other console manufactures to launch their respective consoles to compare and see if that price tag is crazy or not.

Strange how they have announced it so early then, and not at next years E3. That’s ages away. I guess they have to placate investors or something.

I call bullshit. I don’t even think that Nintendo knows how much it’ll cost yet. I’ll put my money on 300 of your american dollars.

Complete and utter speculation on the part of this retailer. By reporting this non-news story, you’re just giving them the free advertising they sought by shamelessly trying to stir up controversy.

I’ve actually been looking around for a place to pre order the wii u it, but I haven’t found anything.. amazon has it “pending”.. why can’t nintendo just annouce a price? not a released date but just a price.. so I can put my pre order in place.. :/
I found one service that claims to have pre ordering soon.. http://www.preorder-wiiu.com.. but I’d rather just put my order on amazon or another leading site.

I found that you can also preorder the Wii U from here: Preorder a Wii U. Hopefully the final price is closer to the $300 range.
